When was the last time the U.S. helped an ally?

Kuwait comes to mind.
Then in Europe (to help all European nations), to prevent a wider war, the U.S. and NATO intervened in the Balkans.

Two examples enough?

For those over seas, America is the melting pot for the rest of the world, but i guess many of you can not see that. Many people join US Armed forces to earn their citizen ship here, but many really ignore that. LOL as part English. German, Libyan and Black Foot Indian I'm still proud to be part of this country.

Honestly, what would happen to the world if the U.S. was not here?

Driving and smoking do more for that thinning than guns.

To be fair, the USA is one of (if not the) the largest humanitarian aid donors to the UN (and other aid organisations).

Well actually... according to this map, the U.S. is marked 5th, where as new zealand and australia are first. They are definitely up there of course, but it really depends on the year, these things fluctuate all the time

Well, Canary beat me to it, but I was gonna comment on this statement, which is false ;).
Even taking into account ONLY the United Nations, Europe is by far the biggest contributor.

Actually, if my memory is correct, only NATO was there, which the US is a part of, along with 27 other countries.

Please now lets set aside the pro-US or against-US comments and focus on the matter at hand : Independance day, which is a beautiful day for our american friends that would not have been possible without the help of my french ancestors and La Fayette. U MAD AMERICA ?!! B)

But seriously, I like americans, they're (almost) always the nicest people in bars to drink with, they tip well and they are friendly. Plus all the american female tourists in Paris wear very revealing clothes, which very nice for us :P

Indeed, however that map is for charities. The UN (along with most NGOs) is not a charity, therefore donations made to them are not taken into account. Also, that map measures donations made by private citizens, not governments (or corporations), and the US donates the highest individual percentage of UN funding out of all the member states.

Interestingly enough, Europe is not a country.

HAPPY 4th!!!

Ya know, the OP just wanted to thank the American forefather's and wish all American forum members a happy 4th. If you have responded to this thread with anything other than a return "Happy 4th" or "thank you" or the like, consider yourself a troll
This isnt the political debate thread and very few people are actually concerned with your views.

and no... im not mad "Bro". Just saing... :-)

TBH my smarty pants post was more aligned with my general malaise towards holidays predicated on war being made about Nationalism as opposed to sorrow. ANZAC day in Australia is getting too Nationalist by far but still remains our most poignent national holiday and our most solem... then we all go to the pub and watch the ANZAC day cricket or something.

Freedom never comes from the exercise of force... force it is just a means through which one power base replaces another. It is the nature of the power base not the means through which it is established the the U.S.A. should celebrate. Make the 4th Friends with France day and save the fireworks for Constitution Day or Ratification of Inaliable Human Rights Under Federal Law day. Those are the things the U.S. should be proud of. Not holding out until the English decided beating France in Europe was more importand then holding ANOTHER colony.

a few videos of the American's and British having their own fireworks in the war zone. Happy 4th to all our and our allies servicemen.

This video is Royal Marines cooperating with the U.S. Air force in destroying an insurgent compound. They seem to enjoy their job. :D

US Marine's literally alongside British units, they call in two jdam strikes just outside their compound where they engaged insurgents. I noticed they all got a good laugh after the bombs went off.

Stay safe out there guys.
