I plan on being a Medium level Mech following release and wondered. Which House would be the best for a medium? Or should I just become a Merc?

Lone Wolf is off the map. I like having a lance or a star to fight with. So much better for survival with a smaller mech.

Opinions?

Since you can probably buy any mech from any faction i guess it only mattes if your realy Hardcore into roleplaying.

Not sure where, but you can find the devs stated the pricing on mechs will vary slightly from house to house, but ALL mechs will be available to ALL houses.

to the OP factions are much more about role playing than anything else right now. That said, I would suggest you don't worry about it too much since the whole faction warfare thing wont be in at the beginning and just find a few friends and go along with them. I personally chose davion right now, but am completely open to moving if I hook up with some people who want to be mercs or some other house.

Any I guess. Every faction should need medium 'mechs.

Pretty sure factions won't have faction specific 'mechs. Can't garantee that there won't be discounts for "faction 'mechs", Slightly cheaper Jenners for Kurita player etc.

As far as BT lore goes...

Some tyes/variant are more common in some factions than others.

List based on BT Lore NOT MWO.

CICADA
CDA-2A: Rare, primarily Marik.
CDA-2B: Liao, very rare (used for training).
CDA-3C: Liao, very rare (used for training).
BTWiki

CENTURION
CN9-A/AH/AL: Davion primarily. Very rare (or in poor condition) in Kurita and Liao forces. The "AL" may originally be a Steiner variant.
BTWiki

HUNCHBACK
HBK-4G/S/SP: Any, popular with Kurita, Liao and common in the FWLM (Marik)
HBK-4J/N: Any
HBK-4H: Periphery (and Pirates)
BTWiki

TREBUCHET
TBT-5N: Any, but most common in FWLM (Marik).
TBT-5S/J: Marik.
BTWiki

Note: The faction stated is the primary operator: The faction that has the largest (known) number of a given type/version. Any faction that has been involved in a major conflict with the primary operator is likey to have, at least, a few working salvaged or captured 'mechs of the given type/version e.g. Davion and Marik are likely to field Liao 'mech type/variants etc.

Further, 'mechs are personal property (for the most part), so they follow the MW. A "Steiner 'mech" can end up fighting for Marik if the MW decides to change his/her allegiance or he/she is the descendant of someone who did. Add Mercs and Lone Wolfs and pretty much any 'mech can end up anywhere.

This is how I interpret it anyway: for the period between the 3rd Succession War and 3049 that is.

You know he was being sarcastic and playing off Steiner's preference for Assault Mechs.....

Thanks for all of the input.

To the comments about roleplay, i am not extremely worried about the roleplay side, i am concerned with down the road being able to easily find a lance or 2 of mechs that arent all 100 ton atlas steiner scout lances to play with (like during times of 'war')... i have not seen many people who actually picked a medium to fight, all of them i've seen are medium to scout. While I like that side, i do want to be able to fight as a medium "Line filler", a balance of scout, fighter, and support mech that is fast enough to be used as a reaction force mech.

And once clans are released. If they release the Shadow Cat mk i, thats my favorite mech period. So i'll be piloting a 'captured' version with a major house.

I'm just wondering which house either is a little lacking (as in have SOME, but could use more) or are mostly balanced.

Given that the classic percentage of mediums on the the battlefield is 50% of all mech involved, any house will do. Personally, I like the selection of medium mech variants from the FWL, even if many of them are the classic unseen quartet - Phoenix Hawk, Griffin, Shadow Hawk and Wolverine.
