River city looks phenomenal, but why was the Thud hero name changed?

Because YOUR FACE.

The Top Dog seems pretty ridiculously current-meta. I'll laugh so hard if the rebalance promised this august breaks the Holy Laser Vomit meta. So hard.

"Tallman" would've been much better.
It's a much more unique and interesting name, than the "top dog".

Top Dog just sounds.... so generic.
But i guess it fits the whole Laser-boat Thunderbolt schtick, you can't get any more generic than that.

I don't understand why they made a laser-boat Thunderbolt hero. There's already several laser-boat capable Thuds. Seems... Redundant.

Not seeing what the Wolverine brings to the table at all right now, anyone know?

King Crab hero please. Nobody cares about a Thunderbolt hero. But another meta build versus clan meta builds is always welcome.

Well, the Thud is based off an actual canon design used by Mary Tallman, hence the "Tallman" name that was supposed to be.
It supposedly removed all weapon except the Large laser and replaced them with 4 MLs in each sidetorso.

Yeah, not the lore behind the mech, but rather why they chose that as a hero to release rather than... Something else. Something that would, you know, not be entirely redundant.

Edit: Sorry, I'm being thick. Of course they released this, as it's pretty much directly pandering to the current meta and pretty much sure to sell like hotcakes unless it's got terrible quirks. But still.

Meh.

Honestly?
I kind of like when they add canon hero mechs, instead of making **** up.

Yeah, i understand that a pure energy boat (just like 3/4 of the Resistance 2) is kind of boring, but i think it's fine.

I agree, but there's LOTS of canon hero mechs to choose from.

But only one of them fits the current time frame, when it comes to Thunderbolt.

One that i'm aware of, and well, it's this one.

I guess. Seems practically everything else has a hero anyways. *shrugs*

Just seems like it doesn't add much of anything to the game. But whatever, if it floats someone's boat, that's all good.

This one please.

KGC-010
This version of the King Crab was created by the Star League to be a command 'Mech and introduced alongside the original 000 model in 2743. Conceived in secret between Cosara and the Terran Hegemony, it was an attempt to produce a deadly command 'Mech by mounting a pair of newly-developed Hellstar Magna PPCs in either side torso. These PPCs were different from other models in that they did not require an outer "barrel" but instead were mounted flush with the torso, each opening surrounded by a specially-designed Holly SRM-6 launcher, while the cooling sleeves extended out the back of the 'Mech. In place of the normal autocannons the 010 model carried LB-10X cannons. The combination of the non-standard housing and odd-colored discharge of the PPCs caused many pilots to believe they were facing a brand-new weapon systems, while the spine-like protrusions of the cooling sleeves produced massive heat-diffusion waves. All told the 010 model was more than capable of taking down an Atlas, but the entire line left with Kerensky during the Exodus and even knowledge of the design's existence became lost during the Succession Wars.[6][7] BV (2.0) = 2,181[27]

Honestly, the two new heroes pending release are just not my thing, but I'm sure plenty of people will like them. Meta loves laser builds and asymmetrical load-outs. Both of these offer those in spades; and the "Quarantine" Wolverine also offers a hybridized, purely asymmetrical, build for people to utilize. I see an AC/2 or 5 to act as a screen shaker and deterrent weapon while the missiles and energy weapons do the heavy lifting.

Outside of that, I'm mostly looking forward to the River City overhaul for the 7th. It's looking really incredible.

As a final note. I'm sorry, but PGI doing CW events without more major balancing passes and content for the game mode (only change has been one to prevent light rushes . . . good change, but minimal) is just a moot point. I look forward to the evolution of CW, but right now it's still rough . . . at best . . . and there shouldn't be entire events based around it.

well judging from 3:17 the Wolverine Hero has 2 SRM6 in the RT and the RA holds an AC5 and some kind of Laser. Can't see any other weapons.

Dat Thud hero ...needs more lasers!

I believe it has 1B and 2-3E in the arm and missiles in the torso per the Town Hall.
