On the rare occasions the 4th Tau Ceti Rangers are recalled from the front lines, the MechWarriors dig into the back of their lockers and retrieve their dress uniforms. The standard dress uniform consists of a high collared dress shirt in Liao green with gold trim. A brown coat with gold buttons and shoulders goes over the shirt. On the left breast of the coat is the sigil of House Liao. A cap or beret of Liao green is worn on the head with the 4th’s symbol pinned to it. The standard issue black uniform shoes must be worn as well. For MechWarriors who have distinguished themselves in combat, a belted sash of gold silk bearing the unit badge may be worn instead of the traditional belt.

Away from the beauty of Sian, the MechWarriors of the 4th Tau Ceti Rangers don their gear for Mech combat. The blistering heat of a Mech in combat means that only the bare essentials are worn. A cooling vest is vital to keep the pilot from dying of heat stroke, running coolant through tubes interwoven into the vest. A neuro-helmet sends the pilot's brainwaves directly to the Mech's computer helping provide the mighty war machine with it's natural movement and balance. The bulky neuro-helmet is often painted and personalized by the pilot with the unit colors or some other design that fits their fancy (and regulations). Most pilots carry some form of sidearm for protection in case their Mech is shot out from under them behind enemy lines. For modesty's sake a pair of shorts is often worn, but there are reports of some pilots that eschew even that minor covering.

Actually, there is a little bit of a precedent/logic to that. Real life Special Forces on deployment are allowed grow normally non regulation beards. Since MechWarriors are the elite of the BT universe, the same allowance could be afforded to them. Take into account that before the FedCom military reorganization into Regimental Combat Teams and other reorganization efforts by Major Houses, the majority of MechWarriors enjoyed a sort of warrior-class nobility status with Mechs being passed down from generation to generation. As such who was gonna tell the guy riding 30-100 tons of destruction that maybe he oughta shave? Finally, since the 4th Tau Ceti Rangers are technically a mercenary unit, it could be argued that uniform regulations are a bit looser than those inside the CCAF.

Now if you'll excuse me I gotta go touch my girlfriend's boobs to counter balance that large outpouring of nerdism :P
