I don't think a resource issue would happen here, unless it would normally happen in the Academy, or during a tipical match.

Simply becouse the 3D mech hangar would (or should) be created and work exactly as any other map. Only difference is scale and no mech-hud..

Although, I would also like to hear anybody's reason for NOT doing this?

Indeed.

I'd think we're all tired of Pgi churning out pack after pack. This would be a good alternative.

There has been alot of interest in this topic since closed beta. But alot who were have moved onto other games by now maybe.

Eve added this and Star Citizen even started with this before their main game was even playable. Its a good idea.

Of course they did.

Its simply how a modern cutting-edge game should look like.

Customisation has always been, and will always be a big seller.. Humans are a creative sort, its in our DNA.. and the ones who aren't that much into it.. they can run stock.

if you watch the new developer video you can see that we're gonna be able to exit our mechs and walk around

Posted Image

can't be really that far from doing something like this in the mech academy and building a hangar for us
hell they could be combined

after going through the academy's tutorial you get a free hangar for a few mechs to start with

If you like this idea come check out premium weapons. These weapons would have the exact same stats as their regular counterpart, no p2win.

Here's how some other games (from more kickstarter freindly developers who have actually done worse than PGI in squandering milions of kickstarter funds) have done it..

This is what we're thinking of when we say we want a "walk in mech base" and "walk into mech mechselect"..

Look at around 1:30 and onward from that.. although the whole video is what I'm talking about..

PGI, learn from this.. you CAN do it better.. you've already proven that with the mech switcher..

If you need funds, I'm thinking, another Kickstarter would fund stuff like this easily..

Also.. BUMP. :P

Very nice.

Instead of a kickstarter, how about a way to increase their income?

Yeah, obviously..

but also kickstarter.. would make things go more smoothly, and they would have a financial obligation to deliver..

Well, idk if a kickstarter for a single feature makes sense. Probably for several features. I'm unsure it'd happen.

Here's Dennis De Koning on custom mech hangars.

"The customization of hangars is something that I've thought of and have put on the table.
We're in the process of recreating the hangar to be 360' view-able, but as a 'when-there's-time-to-work-on-it' kind of project which means no hard due date. The next step could lead to them being customize-able, at least as much as posting faction banners. It's not carved in stone (yet), but I see it as a stretch goal."

Well great!

Getting it on the table is step 1.

Step 2 is keeping it somewhere on their minds, and showing them the community wants this feature.

Step 3 is showing PGI its good FOR THEM.

I truly hope they move up these steps because people are already doing this in other games, bigger budget games that will draw players, any by proxy, funding, away from PGI.

Making "Big changes" such as that would mean more marketing, more returning players, and more billable playtime for PGI.

Not making such "big cosmetic changes for the better" would mean the game stagnates, looses players, and slowly, but surely dies.

If they think many MWO players won't simply leave the game to play Star Citizen (especially steam players who are not BT fans) when that game gets its FPS add-on, or shockingly, actually gets completed, they are sadly mistaken.

Upgrades such as this are a BIG way in which PGI can keep MWO fresh, exciting, innovative and cutting edge for people who are not that much into BT that they would still play it and spend money on it if it had 8-bit graphics.

This is good for players, good for PGI, and should be a major goal scheduled right after CW Phase3 and PVE campaigns.

This would be a really poor usage of developer resources and would demonstrate bad priorities on PGI's part. They really need to spend the next year devoting design/engineering resources to things that improve retention and replay value, i.e. new gamemodes like Solaris (or my sig).

something tells me they won't take away resources from selling mechs to making fun things to use them to/on

this is about taking resources like the ones they use to create the testing grounds (which is also MWO's first single player experience I guess)
and opening up another revenue stream besides more and more mechs

look at this

Posted Image

ignore the christmas stuff

it's just a small map

with walls on most sides, a few fake backgrounds
the tank can easily be replaced by a mech (or mechs)
leave some room, doors for stuff to be added later

done
they already have a model of a technician inside the game (testing grounds)
first person mode (exiting and entering a mech)
mechs that are detailed enough for this (and the scale too)

hell I would just take a map with nice background (big blue star Posted Image ), build a room like this there (or just copy and paste the mech hangar, which is in 3D), delete the rest of the map you can't see and call it a day
well at least for a beginning

I know people in this community and others that, given the right tools, could do it themselves

Also lookin g forward to this. Even a basic start on being able to get out of the mechs shows promise.

A bit of a necro but I wanted to ask how much things should cost to customize your mechbay with? Similar to cockpit items?

So, am I understanding this correctly? Is PGI kicking around the idea of making a navigable mechbay for MWO?

Yeah that's how it is but it's not getting focused on. Perhaps they could be convinced to put more focus on it.
