As a whim I picked up the Extreme Pro 240 GB for $95. I figure this is a piece of hardware that I can use now and move over when I make a full upgrade.
Is this size adequate for an operating system and MWO? From what I've read 120 GB is pushing it so hopefully I'll be okay.
Thanks!

Also $95 for the San disk drive is not amazing but it isn't bad either. Newegg regularly has the Samsung 850 Evo and Crucial Mx200 or bx100 for $90 each 250gb/256gb. SSDs are a great upgrade. Enjoy.

Although I did see that NewEgg had another brand on sale for $75 so it was a good deal, but not an unbelievable one.
Still worth it though!

I would normally agree but the SanDisk Extreme Pro benchmarks trades blows with the 850 Evo in terms of performance, reliability, etc. It is one drive that SanDisk really turned out a nice product.

one of the best upgrades normally
remember no defragmenting a SSD

if you're system is pushed on resources like RAM or VRAM it can help
if new stuff needs to be loaded into memory somewhere the sheer speed and low access time from SSD's (compared to normal HDD's) would give you less stutter

My new barebones rig arrived last week and I've now got my first ssd....very very impressive.
Mine is Kingston 120gb...would have liked a bigger one but OP is quite right...cost has gone down so much for ssd it's unreal. Just get another if it starts to fill.
Now a great time to invest if you haven't already.
Is it just me though, or is RAM expensive at the moment?

16GB kits of DD3 or 4 for $100 or less? No, RAM is very much not expensive
especially when we remember what it used to be... I'm young, my computer building experiences all still somewhat new, but even back in 2005, as far back as I go, RAM was amazingly expensive. My 1GB kit of dual-channel OCZ Gold Edition cost me $330, as much as my CPU!
