I realize it's redundant at this point, but I guess I'll be on more person to jump on the 7850/7870 bandwagon. They're both fantastic GPUs, not just for the money, but in the sense of being high enough up in the performance hierarchy to be good enough for games present and future for awhile to come (unlike, say, a 460, which is fine now, but won't be for a particularly long time, not a good situation for a new rig).

agreed

Eventually went for the 480 at $200. The price of the 480's for some odd reason are jumping up to $250 so I snagged one while it was still $200.

If I ever planned on doing something fancy like crossfire, I would have gone with the 7850/70's but like I said I'm on a strict budget so I went the inexpensive route. My PSU and fans setup should be more than enough to keep it cool and quench its thirst for power.

Anyone reading this post, you may want to follow Vulp's advice regarding the 7850/70's unless you can get the GTX480 for $200 and not a penny more.

I would suggest a card that is within a budget you can afford. If money isn't an option, then buy the latest, for longevity. But, I bought 2 HD 6850's and only spent just over $350. Now remember, I bought my first 2 yrs ago and the second last year. They will last a while. It just goes to show that you don't have to have a great card, but a sensible buy. Depends on what you want and what you can afford. Play it smart. If you can get two cards, sometimes a single one is better. Also, 2 or more fans are a lot more silent, if you hate noisy fans.
