Imagine...

Imagine a map.
This map is large enough for at least 12vs12, possibly larger (e.g. new Forest Colony(*))
Mode is skirmish, no objectives.
There are 2 (two) distinct, larger spawn areas, one for clans, one IS. (see below)
These spawn points are not accessible to the oppsing side. Absolutely not.

That's... nothing new so far.

Now, the new trick is:
- this map is always open
- players can enter at any time, right into the middle of the battle
- if all slots are full, you enter a waiting room and get injected into the map as soon as one mech dies (or runs out of time)
- there will be no final teamscore - just your individual spoils of battle
- there will be no balancing, no PSR.
- this is a free-for-all fun deathmatch arena
Just come out, have fun, and play.

A game mode for fun's sake.

Imagine... all those people in CW reinforcing when they should regroup? Play this mode instead!!!

PS: remember, this is only a wild idea, not something i theorized about for ages...

just imagine - one team destroys all opponents and holds the respawn point of newcomers who will die one by one. Will you play it? therefore it'll be completely unbalanced and boring as for winners, because after several wins defeaters won't come back to mode and they'll play alone without enemy, and as for other players, who don't won't indefinite suffering. Just remember how many mech relieve each battle. It won't be fun.

- players are given a limited time on the map. your mech will selfdestruct after 10 min
- you get 12 people spawn-camping? they will be gone after 10min max.
- spawn points will be selected evenly by server, i.e. only one waiting room
- spawn points are absolutely not accessible for opposing team
- one more thing: there will be no win, there will be no loss. endless action, endless fun.

The big advantage over CW/PUG?
no more waiting for the 12th player to show up
no more waiting 10min for a ghost drop
no more lonely running around on testing grounds, want to test a loadout? just try it out here
no more complaints about PUG vs team drops

Fun and Havoc

(*) map should avoid interactive terrain for shorter load times on clients...

Will you play it? therefore it'll be completely unbalanced and boring as for winners, because after several wins defeaters won't come back to mode and they'll play alone without enemy. It concerns other players, who don't want indefinite suffering. Just remember how many mechs relieve each battle. It won't be fun. The map will be left by everybody in two weeks after release. You have the same mode in CW, which is restricted by 4 mechs for everyone in order to get some balance and save interest for everyone. How many people play it? Even with higher profit.
Therefore it is noncence.

The only addition which will be appropriate in this game is solaris 7 arena with its own rules of gameplay and broadcast via youtube with comentator. Then this game could participate in cybersport leagues and make money both for PGI and players. And get further development of the Battletech Universe with different departments of game such as clan wars, invasion wars, 3025 wars, gihad wars e t c.
Therefore the game can not only relieve 15 years of existance but evolve into something else with your mechs and achievements. And also save the income of PGI which is quite important as for development company:)

Your main idea therefore isn't different from randomplay.

yes! exactly!
it's meant as a relief from coordinated, disciplined group play - which can be exhausting after a while.
i mean, yeah, playing three hours straight in a 12 player TS group is wonderful... it's the reason this game is so appealing, but every now and then? i just want to stand in the middle of a fray, turn around wildy and shoot out of every possible weapon at once... want to go on a crazy rampage to relax :-D

  • LocationTo Nova or not to Nova. That is the question.

Personally I think this sort of game mode would be a great addition to the game.

Similar idea here:
http://mwomercs.com/...s-battlefields/

I see it more as a territorial dominance style of game which probably best suits CW:
  • Capture the bases and landing zones (spawn points) to control the map and win.
  • Capture strategic points for benefits to your side as long as you control them, such as artillery sites.
  • No timer except for running out of time in the attack phase. (If the map is not controlled, need to continue on in the next attack phase)
  • Hot drop a lance at a time into the match as soon as there is enough space on the team to do so.
  • Big enough map so that scouting has a real purpose.
  • Rolling dynamic objectives which individuals or lances can respond to and which provide a short term benefit to the team.
Numerous aspects to work out, such as one team spawn camping. (There are ways to address this)
I certainly think it would bring a lot to the game for us to enjoy.

the only way to aviod disadvanteges, if you want that, is to make map 15x15km with several chosen droppoints.

Yes, similar notion, slightly different solution, but both suggestions go into the same direction:
quick, casual, fun games.

this game mode is not meant to be balanced.
12 direwolves against 12 locusts? unlikely, but possible. you're the locust and die after 1 min? fine, just jump right into the fray again with a fresh mech. don't like the odds? come back in 5 min, when all the dires are gone and the locusts are atlasses instead. maybe you're lucky and drop right into a team of 11 dires...

Yes! Yes, I do. Abso-friggin'-lutely! :D

Remember: this would not be a mandatory game mode... ;) but if it comes? I would suggest you give it a try.
