Best assault match I had was with two of my buddies we were all in maulers and as maulers we set up a firing line and annihilated half the enemy team and focused down there assaults, only because of our lights and fast mediums fighting off the cheetahs and firestarters that were on our flank, otherwise we would have had a really bad time. However we won and all did 500+ damage. We were not in voice comms with the other lances even i just saw the open flank and typed "defend the assaults", and they did.

The tutorial needs to teach rookies basic mech roles on the battlefield. Also the scoring system needs to provide massive bonuses to doing your job such as lights and mediums getting bonus points for attacking other lights/mediums targeting an assault and ecm mechs having bonuses for interfering with targeting data and such.

I am sick and tired of being abandoned. You want me to do my job as an assault? Then follow through with your end of the plan...

There was a plan?

Actually that has not happened to me very often.

What is far more annoying to me is when mediums and lights block the field of fire to get off a salvo (as if their salvo was that important...). By the time they are done, your window of opportunity has closed and you need to maneuver into a new position, which is more difficult for an assault than for a light.
As a lover of lights I know that sometimes happens by accident, but you can avoid it.

As an assault pilot I completely agree with you. I've been there many times. As a realist its not going to happen. Instead of getting angry I have tried to adapt. In solo drops I only run fast assaults e.g. Warhawks, Banshee 3M and many others. I save my Direwolf and slow Assaults for group drops when my friends will have my back or wait for my slow butt.

If a new assault mech comes out and populates the solo drops then you could bring out your slow assaults. If a new good light comes out don't even try its not fun.

Good luck.

With all the other things that Lights have to do, why aren't Mediums tasked with escorting Assaults?

NO!!! Don't stop abandoning them! Leave them behind! My wolf pack needs fresh juicy targets! Keep leaving those Dire Wolves in the dust! Continue to charge ahead of the Atlas! Ignore the pleading cries of your Maulers and Warhawks! Give us their delicious back armor!!!!!!!!

As a frequent Stalker pilot, how about you GET A MOVE ON ALREADY! Even dropping in my direwolf (hate that mech) I can frequently outpace the main body.

It's incredibly irritating to be leading a NASCAR in my stalker and have some assault (that's faster than me in raw KPH) bumbling around in the rear whining about getting left behind!

Next match your in don't let go of that w key, lead the team whenever possible and cut the straightest line possible. Use your allies to scan the area, because chances are the only scouting you can do effectively without putting yourself in a bad situation is keeping your head on a swivel.

bingo!

I own only catapults... that are awfully slow, and easy to kill.

I follow the assaults around and try to use them as armour, while I kill people from a distance, or brawl them if they get close (one of my catapults is a splatcat... I stay near the assault, and as soon someone dives to circle around, that someone get a SRMfull to the face).

I frequently get pissed off at medium mechs and faster heavies, or they just leave us behind and let the enemy flank us, or they decide to stick with us, but start to weave endelessy in our line of fire... even trying REALLY hard to be carefull, I still end most of my matches with some team damage, because some ******** medium decided that walking into my already firing medium laser is a good idea. (or worse, when I was sniping with PPCs once, and a light guy walked past me, then went to my front, then JUMPED to the height of my PPC, got hit in the back, and lost a side torso... I have no idea of what he was trying to do, since there was nowhere to go by jumping there, maybe he wanted to jumpsnipe... or jump peek, this was in front of a CW closed gate).

Happens often when mediums, lights and heavy charge ahead for NASCAR. When it happen it is the light, medium and heavy players fault that they abandoned their heavy guns and they deserve to loose then.

Ofc, it's also something of an issue with lances being very mixed in random drops. Just got my WLF put in with two other lights and a Hunchback, and ofc we were the farthest away from where the guy giving orders wanted us to form up. Since the others just ran ahead I hung back to escort the HBK, but I should have abandoned it from the start. We got swarmed by the OpFor fasts and had no chance to win 2vs4, so in essence lost two mechs when it could have been just one.

A better plan would have lost us none, but we were happy to have a plan at all. ;-)
