That view makes it look pretty good. We'll see how the quirks and hitboxes work but so far I'm loving the look.

Animations still need a lot of work... those feet, man. Like there's no weight to the mesh.

C'mon, PGI. Don't make me pull out my video of the Whale Waddle Waltz again...

I wonder if they'll ever fix the chicken leg animation.

Please notice the big gun.
I might be mistaken, but it might not suffer from "teeny-guns-itys".

That confirms that I did well not buying it.
That mech is not the MAD, but a K.Crab cousin.

Sad.

not like the forums can get any madder then a hatter.

seriously though, it feels like the people who play the game are relaxed, while the people who spend time on the forums act like someone mercury in their hats.

It has been over twenty years since I last occupied the virtual cockpit of a Marauder. I was stomping around the Draconis Marches and the Rasalhague Military District in 3025 at the end of the Third Succession War, probably before a lot of you young pups were even born. The MAD-3D, a Davion design running a large laser instead of the autocannon, was one of the mechs available in Kesmai's EGA Multiplayer Online Battletech. It was very popular with Kurita, which was my faction. Warhammers were most popular in Davion and Steiner back then. I typically drove Riflemen, another Davion variant (3C, though in game it was designated the 3N) in hot world drops and by preference when available, and the Marauder the rest of the time.

The Instagram image looks very much like I remember the MAD, allowing for the distortion of 8-bit, low-res early/mid '90s graphics. It's going to be hot in default loadout, especially the 5D, which is the all-energy variant and a descendant of our 3Ds. I've been running the 3R's default loadout, with a uAC5 substituted for the AC5, on a K2 Catapult since October to get ready for this. It's what has taught me to manage more than two kinds of weapon groups in MWO.

Lot of people will run the Unseen just because they are Unseen. You'll see them a lot in the lower tiers henceforth, that's where you see the most variance in mechs, because that's where the "fun players" who run what they want tend to concentrate. If the hitboxes are good you'll see the asymmetric meta builds in the higher tiers, and the 5D's all energy format will prove popular loaded with pulse lasers, depending on the quirks. As for me, I'll drive it almost exclusively along with the Jester (I'll never leave my beloved Jester forever) til the Rifleman hits...then it's going to be hard to choose where to be. Probably the 3R(S) for the most part in the early learning phase, then the 5D once I learn to manage the heat better. It's been a real challenge in the CPLT-K2 with that PPC-heavy loadout.

The heavy queue is going to be unmanageable with the MAD, WHM, and RFL coming out over the next three months, not to mention the IIC Orion. I hope PGI is considering this, the heavy queue is already running near 40% most of the time.

Group drops is a solution, since the 3/3/3/3 went away :)

Marauder party, baby!

MAD-5M:
  • 2x AC/5 (6t of ammo) + 3x LL (sword and board build)
  • Endo, XL300, 1x JJ, 13x DHS
  • Warhawk speed of 71.3 kph, 37 Firepower, 37% Cooling
It would be okay I guess.

Hasn't hit final QA yet. Night before release, all guns get subjected to the "ice water" test.

Only saving grace is my HBK-IIC should get in match pretty fast.
