With the upcoming steam release, would it not be awesome to intimidate/lure those new players with units that equip matching colors? Giving us a use for the unit coffer would be nice, and allowing it to purchase unit colors would be a decent way to spend said cbills. Just three colors, and allow anyone in unit to use those colors. Would this really be that hard to implement?

That's actually been one of the planned uses from the start. They just need to actually implement it.

...and it won't happen before the Steam release, unless the Steam release is late 2016.

Well, I am glad to hear it was one of the intended uses. I am sure there are a billion other things they are working on, but really, how hard could this be to implement? Hopefully we see something to use the coffer on soon. I really think it would add a little more sense of unit organiztion and community which would also be a great way to draw in more team based players. I am sure its just a pipe dream, but I would love to see 2 12 man groups all with proper colors hammering each other. Mech porn for me ;)

As a person that gave cbills into the coffers when I joined.. I would sure like to see them used in some meaningful way..

I definitely want to see this feature in-game.

Another excellent use would be the purchase of a single unit camouflage pattern, for use by unit members on all applicable Mechs.

Commander of Drop then should have a camo override checkbox or option,so that they can ensure all members of the unit in current drop are IN the units camo and colors, rather than obnoxiously displaying their flash, unless that is just how that unit rolls and the commander does not check the "force unit camo" option on drop.

I agree. Having the unit coffers offer a standardized set of colors and potentially camo patterns would be wonderful. It could be as simple as a check-box in the ready up screen to use unit colors. This would allow pilots to use the unit colors or their own.

If the mercenary could purchase unit Mechs, which members of the company could use, like Trial Mechs, those Mechs could all be painted in the selected unit colors and pattern.

This might be easier to implement than making the colors available for personal mechs.

I think having the unit colors for all to use in cw would be more of a tease for them to buy the colors for public drops as well, good thing for pgi i would think, more sales....?

I'm not certain PGI has the incentive to make unit colors freely available for use on players privately owned Mechs, unless unit coffers include MC to purchase the privilege. PGI may be counting on players purchasing their own paint with MC out of unit pride.

However, as a mercenary, I think it would be good for the unit commander to be able to buy "Unit Mechs" with unit coffer C-Bills and paint them with the colors and patterns that he or she has bought with MC. The purchased Unit Mechs would be the equivalent of Trial Mechs for members of the unit, and be useful for displaying the unit's colors.

There's good reason for PGI to create Unit Mechs, because it would encourages new players to quickly join a unit in order to have access to more than just the standard Trial Mechs. Furthermore, unit commanders are likely to spend MC on paint and patterns to make certain these Unit Mechs look cool and attract more players to the unit. The goal is an increase in players joining teams, which will result in more and better prepared players for Faction Play and community warfare.
