Isn't it supposed for the IS houses to join forces and defend against the Clans?

Instead the IS houses battle each other leaving the Clans with an easier path to success.
It's like 4 people fighting for cake.
2 of those fight each other and forget the cake.
The other 2 join forces and split the cake between them.
2 end up battered and bruised.
The other 2 are now looking for something else to eat while they take a sip on their drink.

Edit - Not that this bothers me too much, knowing the CW map will be reset once again at the end of Beta Phase 3. But I'd like to understand the mentality behind this behavior.

well, not every house can attack clans.
most important: the grudges between the houses have to be kept alive :>
this game is still battletech. marik/liao always fought davions.
it will always be like this. same goes for other battles that occur.
tradition will always remain in here =) clans also fight each other its just that the majority of comp teams are on clanside.
if MS would go Liao.... all hell would break lose. or if KCOM would join davion.

but chances that this happens are literally not there.

Sadly, that's just how the world works. Some people will unite against the bigger threat, but more often than not; people see it as an opportunity to exploit for personal gain. That's how it works in the game. That's how it worked back in the lore. That's how it works in the world.

The more the IS battle each other, the more chances we are providing to the Clans to take what's NOT theirs (debatable argument, I know :P).
If Davion can't attack the Clans, why not join the other IS houses and help them defend against the Clans? Same goes for any other House that is unable to attack the Clans (so far)...

Ultimately there are 2 outcomes from this kind of attitude.
1 - The Clans conquer most planets, drive the IS houses to periphery planets and possibly to extinction.
2 - IS defend the Clan attacks with Houses working together. The closes houses will attack back and drive the Clans back to the periphery planets until they are not as much of a threat.

To be hones, I'm actually tired of seeing the option 1 and would welcome a change to the option 2.
But that's me anyways...

Don't worry, the Clans will get to the southern factions.

Clan Davrat is the biggest threat to the IS. Why other houses betray us and don't attack Davion is a mystery.

It's the same old story.

Everytime the map resets, House Davion attacks St. Ives to "liberate" it from House Liao. This sets off a border war, in which TCAF plans to retake the Tikonov Commonality.

As a result, House Davion diverts resources from defending the Clan border and the Jade Falcons cut through House Steiner like a hot chainsaw through butter. House Liao laughs maniacally, until the Clans show up on their doorstep.

For a lot of IS players the deck is stacked against them because of superior Clan tech and the only way they can get a fair fight is to make sure it's an IS vs IS fight. According to Lore the Clan technological superiority was balanced by IS numerical superiority, but PGI instead tried to balance using the "different but equal tech" theory with the goal of an all-IS team always having a 50/50 chance of beating an equally skilled all-Clan team. They still haven't achieved it.

its amazing how many people think that battletech is just about clans vs IS.

but it's NOT.

battletech does not deserve to be reduced to just that and leave all the housepolitics out on the sideline. in fact,
there should be much more focus on the IS houses! liao/marik pact works very well in lore and in MW: O

where are davions allies? steiner? kurita?
get your stuff together ;)

(chuckles)

Even during the Clan invasion, Houses still staged raids on other Houses, Clans conducted Trials to obtain resources from other Clans (basically raids). Sadly, there are no supply lines or CF/CW would have had more fights, neither would have been able to advance as far, as quickly.

Also, as noted the southern bound Houses can not initiate attacks against the Clans at default positions. Though I wished PGI add a feature where if a 1 lance to 2 lance Davion unit, without having to actually switch factions, could co-opt with a Kurita lance/2 lance to attack a Clan world bordering the Draconis Combine, that could have the potential to make things interesting.

Atm, all units are "merc" units, even the loyalist units. There is no co-opt between Houses. Right now that Davion unit would have to leave Davion employment for Kurita employment, as a merc unit. Adding the ability to co-opt would add opportunities to those who are loyalists, who, technically marked as a merc, does not want to leave their current employer, even for a week, especially since there are not true travel time between planets and sectors.

There is more variety in mechs when fighting IS as opposed to wave after wave of Timbers, Hellbringers, Ebons, and Arctic Cheatahs. In short it's a nice change and the battles between organized groups are fairly close and fun.

When the Steiner world is at 100% we go and attack the wolf planet because it's fun. Clan vs Clan is fun just like IS vs IS is fun, don't limit your gaming opportunities because of the lore. Once the map actually matters go right ahead but right now just have some fun shooting some big stompy robots.

Whant to fight clans? Join Rasalhague. The only IS faction that is free of inter-House conflicts. (because it is not even a House)
We are geathering multi-unit 12-mans on our "FRR hub" TS to attack clans daily.

Indeed, the whole reason why the Clan has risen is due to (civil) war in IS.

A very fundamental part of Battletech is the war between the houses and the irony of "certain" collaboration when facing Clan, the latter are basically grandchildren of IS people that at the time decided to call it a day and move elsewhere after a brief peace period collapsed.

a large part of that is that the Merc units are getting back to what they are. paid soldiers.
switching sides more often than it is currently happening.
sure, mostly its roleplay but it just belongs into here.
we definetly need more house-units like the 12th donegal guards for example.
factional warfare would be so much fun with more roleplay :> it also creates its own content then and no one would be bored of playing it anymore.
even without rewards of owning a planet it would be so much more fun.

Many of us don't care about fighting clans and are more than happy to ignore the whole silly clan invasion. I've hated all things clan since they were created in the 1980's and have wished them removed from this game too. So, IS v IS is where it's at. Better balance, more fun gameplay.

Clantech broke the tabletop game completely so it's always frustrating when they add it in a video game and everyone acts surprised that it's broken there too.

The simple answer is all house factions can help defend against the clans but not all touch clan space so no all can attack the clans and well... They still need someone to attack right? So it's only fair that the houses can still attack each other as hey always have. The clans attack each other too. So it's part of the game.

I think PGI should go away for canon lore and have 4 more Clans attack from the south into Liao, Davion and Marik lol. Bring in Nova Cat, Steel Viper, Dimond Shark and maybe Snow Raven all come in from the South. Would be an awesome map for sure!!
