I think they should also shame the unit these cheats are in and if more than five in one ban wave, are from the same unit they should forcibly remove the unit from the game

Because..everyone in on it right...

What about those people in said units that are actually innocent? They'll get tarred with that cheater brush too? witch hunts are NEVER a good thing, they tend to cater to the baying mob.
Baying mobs are ALWAYS a bad thing.

I'm not sure I understand, Jon Gotham, why would innocent people get tarred? If anything, they're upholding an honorable standard.

Unit name being stained on the other hand, that I understand.

As for not so great players complaining about the genuinely elite, they'll just have to suck it up when they find out that the elite aren't cheats...

Shaming the Unit for the crime of an individual sounds like something some of the mouth breathers would come up with.

Well i guess if they are gonna hold a cash prize of 100k etc for the tournament theyre gonna be on top of this more often. Pre filtering the scum. Cheaters are cheaters. Prolly cheat with everything else they do IRL too. So bye bye and dont come back on some gay arsed alt account. Prolly will. The cycle continues...

Russ did state IP bans, so alt accounts probably wont be happening, but people will get around it. Games will always have cheaters, just have to weed them out.

It's quite simple really. Things like this galvanize mobs of people, when many people get together over something so charged reason tends to take a back seat. If you are in a unit that gets fingered, and you DO NOT cheat your name is still associated with that unit.
It won't matter if that player is innocent or not, he/she will still be from THAT unit.

Yeah, I get you. Mobs aren't reasonable, and once the wrong/erroneous thoughts are communicated, they tend to stick for a while.

Hopefully it doesn't go down that road.

I can't remember if PGI said that the unit cheaters were from would be named also. Might be good if PGI just name the player.

Why do you assume people care whether they're good or bad at this game? That's a minority mindset. You need to stop projecting.

As far as witch hunts at the banned people's team mates ... oh come on, what do you think is going to happen really? I'll admit to questioning these people's judgement as far as what type of people they choose to associate with in their spare time. But nothing beyond that, we all make mistakes. Besides which, people will know which units the banned players were in anyway, so there's no way to keep the unit association secret.

I don't think the cheaters are mediocre I think they are really bad and need all the help they can get. Looking forward to seeing a nice healthy round of banning for MechWarrior Online.

Names? I can only hope. Units that had players get banned? Yes please.

For what it's worth, I generally don't know what unit a certain player I've taken notice of is in. I just take note of good players. That might just be a me thing, though, poor memory and all...

Agreed, I generally don't remember people's units either ... but someone will remember, and that's enough for people to piece together which units were the worst offenders.

I can't wait to see who has been cheating and which unit has been condoning it.

In other words police your damn unit better, or find yourself reforming another under a different name and get it damn right next time

This, so much this.

If we found noticed a cheat in our unit (and how could you not notice, given we all play with and spectate on our own team so frequently?) then we'd not only sack him we'd publicly out him ourselves and apologise for his ever having worn our unit tag.

If you harbor cheaters in your unit you should be ashamed.

If it is name and shame the unit should be included. Anyone care to take bets which units lose a few accounts?

Will they re-assess past leaderboards after? Or will banning take all the energy out of them and they will need a nap?

Oh, I'm still bad at the game, make no mistake about that. I suck and I know it, but that doesn't mean making cheaters suffer the consequences of their actions is a bad thing. The two are wholly unrelated.

In short:

1) Cheaters getting what they deserve is good.

And:

2) I will always be bad.
