I agree with several of your points involving mech balance, OP, but I also disagree with several of your other points involving mech balance.

I do think it's kind of weird how Doom has become a snuff game for just splatting an endless stream of demons and zombies. That's not really what I associate with the Doom-franchise at all. Playing Doom 1 & 2 as a kid, those games were more about the freaky, creepy, evil surroundings. The little stories that would show on the screen after each episode didn't make you feel like a super bad Space Marine. You felt like you were just a mortal human soldier, somehow finding a way to survive in hell.

I don't really like the "F*** YEAH!" epic super awesome sauce theme that they've got going for the new Doom game. Doom was never about that, for me. If anything, the Doom games were very much like the later Heretic and Hexen games, in that they shared that uncomfortable, creepy atmosphere. You weren't a super powerful hero, so much as a survivor. You spent most of the game looking at your own bloody, exhausted face at the bottom of the screen.

I disagree with this part. First time i played Doom2, before Doom1, was all the so realistic blood and gore. I still remember the brains of the big dude with chainguns flying out, i could fire a rpg at the wall and get damage and see bloody chunks fly? wow that was insane.

Im very happy it went back to an action shooter with blood rather than the horror flick doom3 was. And doom had a story that was in a text file in the directory, i really dont remember much about it but i remember it was just enough to let my mind fil lthe holes and make it great. So much better than what they tried to tell in Doom3. Sure Doom2 got me skip a bunch of heartbeat but it wasnt all that. The evilness of it all, the walls of living flesh, implaled and flayed people... it was insane for the time.

Other games i felt were so realistic were Quarantine and Syndicate, you could put people on fire and you would come back later and the corpse was still there and in the case of Q it was still on fire lol. good times.

I agree with Heretic and Hexen, though Hexen i didnt like much, Heretic was awesome.

I think what you are trying to say is we need more melee, more tearing of limbs and more blood.

That new game... the OP is talking about, that's not Doom. That's Call of Crap meets Blowlo (Halo).

Doom is fast.

Doom is visceral.

DOOM DOES NOT HAVE DOUBLE JUMP

DOOM DOES NOT HAVE RAILGUNS
You want Doom?

Play Brutal Doom.

Get it here:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom

It has a new and hard 32 level campaign. I have texture mods installed in my Doom which can be found here:

http://www.moddb.com...i-def-doom-pack
I use Zandronum to run it all.

Play Brutal Doom. Don't play imitation garbage.
