Artillery and air strikes, as they are currently implemented, are fun but slightly ineffective. Modern implementations of air strikes are not just for indirect fire but also provide other capabilities. It might be interesting to add some other variants to the game. Here are some suggestions:
  • Smoke. When fired at the spot targeted, a smoke round impacts and provides a large cloud of smoke which lasts for 45 seconds. This option could open up a few new tactics - either dropping at the enemy to block their view or at your own feet to hide yourself while you maneuver out.
  • Cluster munitions. When fired at the spot targeted, a pod airbursts above the location, sprinkling it with cluster mines which last for 45 seconds (or until stepped on).
  • Flare. When fired at the targeted spot, a pod airbursts above the location, providing stark illumination. Fun times at night to show the enemy and futz out their night vision goggles!

Speaking of smoke, it would be really nice if mechs were able to emit smoke charges to obfuscate whatever is behind them. Fun for masking movements or whatnot.
