I logged on this morning and as the title says my friend and unit member tab on the social thingie isn't working properly.
For example my unit had 191 members but they are not appearing on the list.

I had this happened a week or two ago.
Its really annoying. i ran the fix tool, reloaded, rebooted, re-everything. I didn't find any solutions online. The next day I planned to look some more but when I logged in I had my friends/unit list.
So the only solution I know of is to wait 24 hours.

Eventually I fixed the problem. But I will tell you about my journey.
Update 1:
Soon after I was unable to logon at all and was getting a "Code 47" Error.
Update 2:
Suspecting viruses and malware I did a clean install of Windows on a new SSD I had already planned to upgrade to.
I did a clean install of MWO using the MWO client found on the web site.
When I started MWO I got the message :
"The Program can't start because MSVCP100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
I installed DX9, and tried running both 32bit and 64bit executables but still got the same error.
Update 3:
I removed the MWO Client and reinstalled MWO via steam.
Now its working great again.
Hope this helps
