Will Intel's onboard graphics run MWO? I'm building my parents a PC on a budget of $400 Posted Image My dad has always been a Mechwarrior fan (he's the one that got me into it), and I'd like to get him into MWO. So my goal with this build is a $400 PC that can play MWO on low settings at 20-30fps. Right now I'm looking at a G3258 for the CPU, but I'm having a hard time fitting a GPU in that price range... Will the onboard graphics on the Intel be enough to play or is there a super budget card that would be better?

I'm open to other suggestions as well Posted Image

400$ with OS?
So, just saying, it's rather a 300$ box...

forget about it. You could rather try an AMD A8-7600 or something faster, but you would be mostly better off with a dedicated GPU.

Why don't you get some used parts? Intel Sandybridge Quadcore and a nVidia Kepler GK104 should be obtainable for 300$.

@Kshat, yes $400 with OS... so yeah...

@Goose, $400 is with everything, hdd, OS etc...

I know it's not going to be pretty, but I'm just looking for something that can scrap by.

I run mwo in a gigabite brix minipc with intel i3 and onboard intel hd 5500 at 25-35 fps, at 800x500 resolution. Totally playable, but everything at low settings.

Just check the performance of that cpu...

@ Lex and Jonomy, thanks for your replies. I think the G3258 has a lower spec graphics package (4000 series, IIRC), so it would probably run it worse... I may have to try to get an i3

find an oldish refurbished computer w/ a 2nd gen i5 sandybridge for $200-$300 and then buy a nvidia GT 430 or something w/ similar specs for $30-40. And (if u can) find a CRT monitor and lower the res to 768p. ( i understand if u cant find one tho, i f u cant, use what ever monitor u can get, just get a bit better graphics card, maybe a gtx 950 if u can find one cheap) I had a gt 430 and a CRT monitor lying around, so this is a good sugestion if you have a spare part or 2 :)

Heres what i run

Crt monitor lowered res to 768p
nvidia gt 430
intel i5 2500
4 gb ram (bit low, will upgrade soon)
lowered game graphics to low, disabled any frame-stealing features
maybe $400 tops, if you include a cheap monitor and a mid tower case, proabably the cheapest u can get to running MWO smoothy (although the graphics are meh, but thats what u have to sacrfice for less then $400)

oh, and if you decide to build your PC from scatch, keep the G3258 :)

The other computer in my house's specs ( because i can :P)
florescent monitor 1200p ( the computer has 3 monitors, one 1080p led and 2 1200p florescent ones
radeon 7950 boost ( upgrading to a 970 soon hopefully :))
intel i7 2600k
16gb ram
game graphics set med-high
60fps (may go down to 50 in an intense battle)
this computer was built 5 years ago, adding in the 7950 around 2012, so the price to build it back then was about $1,000

*Shudders* I had an EVGA PSU crap out on my PC and took my Hard Drive and about 150 hours worth of downloads with it. I'll pay the difference to get them something besides that...

Is that GT 730 actually going to do anything over the Intel graphics?

also, Holy crap at actually putting something together under $400 Posted Image

I don't think this thing will even hold a framerate limit of 30, let alown 42: You may have to set to twenty-one. How is that wroth money?

The good news is the mobo and RAM can carry forward …

Thanks Dirk, but they'd rather have a desktop and $400 is pretty much the max they want to spend.
