It's Cheap/ Weak, and yet here I am with ~$22 to go Gold Plus, and $11.50 to add a fan to the door, leaving the ceiling and rear Zen/ Open, for the sake of the down-draft Arctic Cooler. Another $1.5 would make that fan a Scythe SlipStream, good for 110CFM … but I'm bad at nuance the door grill half-points at the video card, so I went with a static presser model.

Anything resembling an upgrade for the card ment $145~180 instead of $128.

The RAM was had gone up ~$12 so it would be short enough to clear the radiator on the forward-ceiling mount, but then I spotted a speed bump to go with it, so it's $22 extra.

An argument can be made I should'a looked for another mobo, featuring a heat pipe, instead of buying two SpotCools for the VRMs.

Two radiators plus "tall" RAM = Drama; This kit is looser then I wanted, but the spreader comes off with two screws on each DIMM. Corsair has a tighter and cheaper kit, but could easily be too tall.

The 140mm goes on the door … As an intake, in case you where guessing. ;-)

I think I'm going to replace my X99 system with a Kaby Lake system once those chips are released. X99 has been a disappointment for me on a few fronts. I like how the system performs, but at the same time it is still lacking. It still doesn't have quite the same oomph as my Sandy Bridge system did at 5GhZ (it really is too bad it started to become very unstable after so many years and can barely stick it out at stock clocks now).

The CPU, motherboard, and GPU will be different, but I'm expecting to spend about the same amount. For now, I've put together its Skylake equivalent in pcpartspicker:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($334.99 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Water 3.0 Ultimate 99.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($119.72 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Asus ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($241.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 Pro Series 512GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($223.35 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital VelociRaptor 1TB 3.5" 10000RPM Internal Hard Drive ($208.98 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card ($649.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Corsair 780T ATX Full Tower Case ($149.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic 760W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($148.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case Fan: Noctua NF-A14 industrialPPC-2000 PWM 107.4 CFM 140mm Fan ($27.18 @ OutletPC)
Case Fan: Noctua NF-F12 industrialPPC-2000 PWM 71.7 CFM 120mm Fan ($22.95 @ Amazon)

The SSD and HDD will be recycled from my current system. There will be either 3 or 6 of the Noctua NF-F12 fans depending on how nicely a push-pull setup would fit inside the case with the triple-rad AIO. If anybody is looking to build a high-end system, though, you can use this as a template. It'll definitely more than do the job with the current set of Skylake chips, too.

It's Cheap/ Weak, once again, and … We just barely have anything to talk about.

By "barely," I mean "We paid ~$20 extra, and shoe-horned in a GTX 960 with 4GB." It cost ~$15 to go Gold Plus this time around, but the door fan and cable still cost ~$11; And you have to get buy with the boxed cooler, using the same Zen/ Open Grill gag as last time.

Spoiler

This is pretty close to what I just got, biggest trouble was trying to decide if I should upgrade to a 970 or not. Ended up going for 960, since it is so much cheaper with not really a lot of loss in performance comparatively.

Yeah: It's a bad time to buy a video card. Posted Image But I do not forsee PSU issues with a GTX 1060, which might show up around the 960s' price point.

Even when you add a Spotcool, them Liquid Freezers are compelling.

~$11 to go Gold Plus … And something 'bout the case also feels like another $11.

There's a hybrid drive for 'bout $2 more then this drive combo, but somehow, this seemed better.

Once more, with feeling: I still don't know if that GeminII will hang over the VRM, where I need it to, or if it can only hang over the RAM … But I no-longer have a height listing for these DIMMs; This sink can't face north in this (cheap) case, and it probably can't face south, even with the card being in the second slot. I know I spent $5.5 to move the rear fan onto the door, and I save ~$13 with the Cooler Master over the Zalman I prefer.

$14 saved on the mobo, by not getting the 990 chipset. Posted Image Woot.

Then we have the PSU: The first two I "liked" didn't really have reviews. Posted Image The SMRT model, here, does not match the 630 version Hardware Secrets liked back in '12; The other was Thermaltake Toughpower 750, for ~$21 more, has a big brother which JohnnyGuru liked; Ether choice was bending rules, but after all the drama 'tween cooler and case, I chose to keep-on skimping.

Note the overclock estimate with the '20E:
