So I just started up the game last Friday, and well, I got the bug.

I do want to participate in community warefare, but other than the Cheetah I have been running (still working on the xp for it ) which other 3 mechs should I focus on?

I am sure I will need a heavy/assault and possibly medium to run with.

Any help would be appreciated, since I do not know which are the "decent" mechs out there.

I dont want to be a LRM boat, but, if that is what is needed, sure. But mostly I am looking for mechs that can dish it out as well as take some. I am fairly decent player, and quick to learn.

If you are curious, a video of me playing last night can be seen here

Thank you all very much.

Thank you for not assuming lrm boats <shiver>.

Clanside, the easiest opening decks would be:
1-4 ebon jags + 1-4 hellbringers (since 4 x 65tons = 260) so you just mix and match based on your loadouts for the map/circumstance.
Less expensive overall since you have cheetahs would be:
1 cheetah + 3 Timber Wolves

I would personally go with the first if you have the cbills to buy 3 of each so you can level them and have a selection to pick from.

Thanks for the input. I forgot to mention I have a lot of clan mechs from preorders... Don't judge lol!

I participated in beta but never really played since that date full 2012 release until now. But I did keep up with the preorders packs.

It is just the time involved in getting the mechs up to par with the skill perks, I just don't have due to real life.

Well since I have the Cheetah almost mastered... that is 30 tons, which leaves me 230 tons of metal to go. So I could pick 3, 75 ton mechs, or two of those 65 ton mechs, and a Dire wolf (only 100 ton mech I see for clanners) Or do the 95 ton selections... I dunno... LOTS of possibilities.

I am not naive in thinking that any mech will work, since there is meta out there, that I am not privy to, that would make a mech unthinkable to spend a few weeks in "leveling up".

Thank you again!

Dire wolves can be useful in defensive circumstances, but most of the time i would still recommend an ACH and 3 TBRs or combo of any 4 EBJs/HBR

If you have all these mechs, the thing to do is set up drop deck scenarios for brawl, midrange, long range playstyles vs map conditions.

Its probably easiest to build laser vomit midrange first and go from there. Lots of ERML and LPL combos. Hot maps will probably be guass if you what pinpoint precision...

I am not going to dictate builds b/c what works for me may not work for you so just trying to help...

Oh, no sweat, I appreciate the advice. Truly.

I just didn't know what I should be sinking my time into in getting a mech ready to roll for clan warfare. I was told by a couple of folks on my stream that I shouldn't do CW until after I get my mechs mastered, or I would be hurting my team. Because I was going to stop after finishing Tier II on my cheetah prime.

So any advice is excellent! So Timberwolves are ok to use as well? But not Dire Wolf, because of the mobility I assume. Same with Jaguars and Hellbringers. cool. Now I have a road map. Thank you.

Glad to help and tbh your self awareness shows you are probably better prepared than some that drop in mastered mechs and expect ez mode...

I would suspect as long as you have them basic'd you'll be fine.

Also if you are not in a unit that does cw, get in one... sounds like you'd want one that is exclusively clan.

Final word of advice, if you pug drop, bring ecm mechs with mid-long range b/c you can't count on pugs to brawl at close range. There will also be people on your team that care more about personal gain than working as a team (see above about joining a unit). While i think that describes all of us at some point or other, it bears mentioning since it gets frustrating for teammates...

No, you had it right. People say "mastered" a lot, but completing Master tier just gets you an extra module slot. Completing Elite (tier 2) is the one that makes a big difference, as it has the good stuff (like speed tweak, fast fire) and completing it doubles the basic ones - it's possible to get by without it, but it's a noticable difference.

Thank you for all the advice, I do appreciate it . Any more, please let me know.

Well, right now I have to focus down on a specific side to get one "set" of mechs to do faction warfare. I can try inner sphere, but for now clans are what I want to mess with. IS mechs do have some nice quirks though.

And I can't seem to have ECM with Jaguars... LOL.

Plus, I dont want to seem a hindrance for a guild. But running with competent people would make the matches more fun I think lol!

Some amazing information here, thank you!

I have been trying to love the hellbringer because of ECM, but it is tough.

1 ACH + 3x TBR is usually what i use.
Might try 2 x ACH + 2 x KDK when the Kodiak comes out.

Most fun with the Hellbringer i had was with an ECM and 3 x large pulse lasers.

Mixing EBJ/HBR works fine once you master them for generalist DROPDECS.

If you are soloing CW alot, then I recommend that specifically.

Once you start running with some folks (or even a unit) you might find them calling for a specific DEC design that might help you with future mech choices and purchases, but if you are not trying to specifically work into a group design, going to extremes like the DWF can honestly just hurt your team and your experience with the game (i.e. you drop the big whale on an offenwive map and your team is not interested in escorted your fatty with their mobile mechs).

Not sure if anyone cares, but I have been playing quite a bit, and I ended up with Going Master with the Timberwolf, Hellbringer and Cheetah.

With the new changes to the Clan Dropdeck limit to 240, this has me set with 4 mechs at master.

I was hoping to get a hundred tonner like the Kodiak in on the action, but that would make things more... meh with my weight distribution.

What do you all think?

Timber, 2 Hellbringers and a Cheetah is a pretty solid deck.

Actually, I was considering 1 Timberwolf, 1 Hellbringer, 1 Cheetah and 1 Summoner...

What do you think about the Summoner getting added?

Streaker
SRM Bomber
Gauss + 4 Medium Laser (or pretty much any ballistic)
Dual UAC-5
Brawler (doesn't look like much but can dish out about 120ish~ damage every 4 seconds)
