As a long time Eve player, and a long time BT/MW fan, I was pleased to hear the word Persistent used. I admit, I have not done a lot of digging on the forums to see exactly how it will work or even if the Devs have spoken on the matter.

What I really hope comes from a persistent world, with a fan base as loyal and rabid as MechPilots can be, is we end up with this kind of story inside as we fight over planets that eventually become home.

This vid was made by my neighboring alliance and close allies. This is what a persistent world can offer if you let the players write their own story. Its a shiny movie and while it truly only shows some of the more boring parts of Eve dressed up to music, the most powerful part of the vid is that its 3-4 years of game time that inspired it. The players can make better a better world than the devs could ever imagine if they give us the tools and freedom to truly fight over the Inner Sphere. I hope they do.

I flew with Birdy, Czech Lion, et. al. in ED with IRC during the Dronelands War. Possibly the best 3 months of PVP gaming I've ever had. And may ever hope to have. Be tough to top a 110+ day fight like that. (If you haven't watched his videos from the Dronelands War, I recommend them. He does a fantastic job.) If MWO can bottle that same kind of feeling, it'll be worth every dollar I've spent, may/will spend and then some.

P.S. Welcome home ED. Best of luck to ya!

Best part was the group of Drakes moving in unison. <3

Propaganda is one of favorite things about EVE. My favorite is the Goon material, but I'm obviously biased. ;) The amount of effort people put into them is quite impressive. Take the "Little Bees" video for example, even if you hate goons, you got to admit this takes talent and a love of the game.

I look forward to seeing what people might produce for MWO.

Nice vid. Those PVPs are the best part of Eve, the isk grinding is tedious though, reason I have been taking a longish break from Eve.
I hope MWO will give a similar atmosphere, but without the tedious , too time consuming grinding.

I was in NC when Morhus Mihi and Rage got demolished by the Ruskies, and I'd love to see the same level of player-involvement in this game. I don't think we'll get the same level of depth, simply because EVE is ultimately an economics game- whether the players use mining lasers or missiles is irrelevant to the acquisition of resources, while MWO is a battle game.

I wish I had stuck with Eve longer than I did... this is the kind of gaming environment I'd love to fall into. I hope it is something that could be possible with MWO.

Battletech and mechwarrior already has this kind of fan base, with luck it will flow into MWO

Exactly Thorgar. There is already a rabid base of players. I really hope they give us the tools to make the game ours and not just something we log in to for a few fights and then go on to other games with more compelling reasons to play. The best part of a persistent world is that the player base is actively sculpting the world and driving the story.

While I want them to embrace cannon, I would find it awesome if the devs give us a place to start and then step back and see where the player base takes it thru fighting and actively attacking and defending each faction's planets and resources. With the right tools, maybe this time next year the Taurian Concordant is the biggest power in the Inner Sphere. That is the kind of thing that would make MWO special, at least to me. Where the players actions translate to drive the story.

the only reason I >don't< see this level of dynamicism happening in MWO is because it'd potentially cause the game to go away from the published Battletech universe. what would happen if House Steiner players took over the Free Worlds League completely and House Marik was exterminated? I don't think the devs would allow for that level of deviation from the published Battletech world.

Well, we better hope they get community warfare in soon after they launch the Open Beta then. I'm not quite sure how they'd handle planets though; they simply don't have time to make that many different maps for all the different environments. Unless of course, they give us a map maker (either a fully blown one, or a stripped down one like Halo's Forge) and then allow player made maps to enter the map pool. That'll take a lot of moderation though, but it could work if all player made maps had to be symmetrical and the devs have to approve them before they go live.

Yup, been playing EVE since 2006. Love the game, the setting and the massive fights that have now managed at times to reach up to a thousand per side.

Unfortunately i dont have the energy or focus to play EVE as one should. EVE is unfortunately a game that does not allow for casual playing when you are in a large 0.0 alliance.

I hope MWO can reach similar heights - just give it 5-6 years. ^_^

EVE - hands down best MMO. I've played all the MMO major titles of the last 10 years and several indie MMO.

If MWO gets a fraction of what EVE has, it will be a great game.

Rgr that, most fun in eve ever for me was The Delve War '09 a month of camping in BoB,
lots of kills and gates/stations that looked like bunches of grapes :)

I would still be playing eve if that pvp was regular. On the other side of things, oh my god did I enjoy the **** out of the deep content.

I`ve played EVE since summer 2003 when it came out of Beta. Ran my own pirate corp for a few years. Did the alliance thing, but last couple of years i`ve been very much on and of though..

EVE just sucks out everything you have. Very demanding game to be really good at. Love it though and i really hope i`ll be able to take the time and start up my corp again.

On the other hand i`m also an avid Battletech fan so i`m hoping MWO will be the whole nine yards..

if they let us change the timeline then they will be holding to the FASA traditions for this game. and I would fully support it. Id love to push back the clans or see one of the houses expand its borders. player actions always effected the world of Battletech.

Yes, EVE was immersive and great... but it has its flaws and most importantly indeed requires a bit too much commitment to really shine. If you only pop in for an hour at a time, you can't do that much fun stuff unfortunately. I haven't really properly played it for over 4 years now.

MWO on the other hand won't reach the same level of depth, but will certainly be a lot more accessible.

I'll be honest. I want a persistent world somewhat like eve, but I DO NOT want to see a game where diplomacy becomes as or possibly even more important than the battles themselves. But on a side note.... I wonder if anyone else can envision MWO's version of a gate camp.

Back to topic at hand. I truly hope faction warfare is fun and goes beyond simply accruing loyalty points etc. to something more intriguing like planetary wars being a series of matches.
