Well, I like to play TF2 on occasions when I want to kill people in a ridiculous fashion. Before we our released from our cages(spawning areas), we have about a minute or so for trash talking without penalty, and when the game starts, its disabled and it is disabled and you will be banned/kicked from the server for a while if you do it. So what do you guys and gals think?

Personally I like the idea... just throwing that out there...

I think your better off communicating with your team mates rather then running in like a buncha monkies ready to throw pies.

I have no reason to argue with you there, but sometimes it can be fun ;)

Trash talk in video comes from deep rooted existential despair built upon abandonment issues and how big brother was always better at mario kart than you.

Yup, who said it was a bad thing to laugh at another person's frustration?

it would be good to get your anger out before becoming cannon fodder and it's also good if it is just friendly joking around with your team and not getting pissed at someone for certain reasons

....trash talking is part of gaming... this had better not turn out like world of tanks where if you say anything to embarass a player no matter how ******* funny it is they ban you, and im also hopign that any moderators they bring into the game are a little more fair and dont randomly ban players just because they are on a power trip that day and mute like 500 players in a 3 minute period

I figure it's probably inevitable, so I know for sure if there is a way to turn off or mute type-chat, it will be the first option set. Well, maybe I'll configure my controls first, but that's likely a close second.

I'm good with this.
Mute them all!

Mostly it's just pointless irritation in a game that is supposed to be fun and is often a person's only leisure time in the day. Do we really need to escape the obnoxious real world for a few minutes to be bombarded with obnoxiousness spawned of frustrated children?
Meh.

It's not something I do. Just not in my nature. But I see no reason to prevent others from saying what they want... regardless of how asinine.

I have no siblings.. But I'll still call you trash if you suicide to 3 enemy mechs without thinking. =P

There is an excess of it of course. I think people can go too far with trash talking, and when race, religion, or sexuality comes into the remarks it should be a bannable offense, temporary at first, and permanent for consistant abuse

It can get out of hand quickly since some people are simply mentally too immature that they fail in controlling their own speech. I had team mates back in MW4 who had their kids sometimes watch them play before the kids go to bed, don't want them to see the filth on the screen.

There's a distinct lack of a neutral option in the poll. I don't mind it, nor do I think it needs to be squelched, but I tend to let my actions do the trash talking.

Trash talking is just another excuse for people to be idiots. Good trash talking (intelligent and funny) like say Mohammed Ali or 'The Rock' Dwayne Johnson is few and far between in real life, even less so online. Most of it is just ignorant ranting and abuse.

I'd rather focus on getting my team strategies, roles etc sorted. It's far more productive and less likely to feed the trolls. So yeah, mods feel free to mod, with extreme prejudice.

I'm not someone who normally trash talks but I am perfectly fine with it. As long as it is not offensive (racist, sexist ect) or stupid, mindless "lulu u guyz suxz su badd" I see no harm in it, and if it is offensive then a report player feature would be good. A toggleable language filter for people who do not want to see any swearing in their chat would also be nice.

A perfectly good reason for why a toggleable language filter should be added.

I don't blame you, it seems to be a rather "Important" topic. But what can you do, people have a certain "fondness" of the Urbanmech.
