Well, would you?

I'm kind of on the fence on this. I don't really fancy the 'Mech because its "brute firepower" design philosophy is in contrast with what I like, which is designs emphasizing mobility first and firepower second. But it offers something new on the Clan Heavy side. To be fair, the Orion IIC has already filled that role, but this 'Mech is better designed and easier to the eyes IMO.

I think this is pretty much the best buy in 2016:

Viper -> Cyclops -> Night Gyr -> Blanner/Huntsman -> Linebacker -> light Gundams -> timeline jump??

So spend your money nao!

It runs at ~70kph (69.7kph) with speed tweak which is the same speed as the WHK, EXE, etc.

No. I am not a Mech collector so I only buy the ones that I really like and that I feel like I can adapt to well. There are a couple already released Heavies that I would consider before the Night Gyr. I will probably not buy more than 1 Assault, 2-3 Heavy, 2-3 Mediums and 2 Lights. The Fire Moth would be the Light I would add. I bought the Viper and Kodiak. So that only leaves a Heavy or two. I will wait until after the re-scale to see how the Mechs are affected by it but right now the two I would consider are the Mad Dog and the Summoner if they get 'fixed" a little bit.

Would it have EBJ Syndrome?

i.e. All the guns, less than ideal geometry; probably underarmored legs for easy leg kills?

Alistair, you are right about PGI not releasing custom geo again which is a major bummer!

perhaps, depending on artwork, and availability of lower arm actuators on the Omnipods.

Probably.

I'm not crazy about such a slow heavy mech, but it will have tremendous firepower.

If the artwork shows nothing but low weapon mounts, then I will likely pass as PGI is unlikely to give a 75 ton clan mech with so much firepower any kind of quirks.

If it has some high mounts to work with, and variants with good omnipods - then yes I'd pick up the Night Gyr.

I've actually put forward a question asking why or when people choose Warhawk over Night Gyr. WHK is a better LRM 'Mech, all things considered.

With "LRM 'Mech" I mean 'Mechs which are not necessarily boating LRMs. WHK can carry 5E, as secondary direct hit weapons, alongside 4M to be more clear.

But to be fair, I forgot that 3E RA Omnipod on the Night Gyr and with it, a Night Gyr can carry 5E+3M which could equal the WHK as long as you are satisfied with 3M.

Re-framing it doesn't change much.

In the current game people play heavies for their blend of speed and firepower, if you are as slow as many assaults - you might as well play an assault for the higher armor+structure.

As its a 75T clan heavy with (IIRC) 37 tons of free pod space, PGI is unlikely to give it any quirks at all.

So this mech will live and die by its available hardpoints and hardpoint locations on the model.

Would I buy a 75T Warhawk? I don't even play my 85T Warhawk anymore, because PGI refuses to do anything to alleviate how bad its hitboxes are, with low mounts and locked equipment that restricts builds too heavily.

I can help you determine the Omnipod setups right off the bat:

This spreadsheet is outdated, though, as it doesn't list the free critslots in each body part.

Head: 1
CT: 2
LT/RT: 5
LA/RA: 6 (assuming you use both hand and LAA, otherwise you can get up to 8)
LL/RL: 0

So basically, the Night Gyr is likely to run into problems with using all of its slots before tonnage, similar to the Whalehawk and Dire Whale. It will pretty much be forced to use at least two large ballistics to make use of its limited space.

This is one of those few cases where the Clan mech would actually be better off WITHOUT Clan Ferro installed...

Artwork is more subjective and more vulnerable to being determined based on a dartboard.

The arms will probably be moderate to low mounted, judging by every art piece about it.

The head laser will be high at least...

The side torso weapons will likely be mounted just below the cockpit, as we can see by these little black holes in the ST's.

I don't think it's possible to build a NightC0cK (a la "WarCock"; because 10 tons less).

About lrm... lol, nope.

Please note once "power draw" gets added firepower won't be such an issue. Hardpoint location will.

Thirst I think PGI will release more IIC mechs like Marauder IIC, Rifleman IIC, Warhammer IIC etc. because they're more popular. I didn't buy P-Hawk, Vyper and Cyclops but a Marauder IIC, Rifleman IIC or Griffin IIC/Shaodw Hawk IIC would be awesome imo.

I can't wait to see those ideas - "Power Draw". Can't decide if they will be simple poor or just bad.
Maybe it will do its thing - like Ghost Heat - wanting but working (for now)
