I mean, the forums is largely abandoned.
Communication and feedback is taking place over at twitter and reddit.
Even there, feedback is only from a select group of 10-20 people trying to shift things to their own meta.
What are we even doing here?
When was the last time a dev posted on the forums? (other than roadmaps)
Why should we have to condense something into 140 characters to get it across?

Why bother?
Why should the next guy try to convince me something is balanced or not?
Why should I even try to convince him otherwise?
Why should we think through ways of improving gameplay and balance even?
What difference it would make?
What is the point?
to what end?

What is the exact duties of a community manager?
What do moderators do other than locking threads?

in b4 lock!

Not long ago Alex Iglesias posted and I've seen a couple of devs reading the forum including Russ himself.

I post in the forums because of the immense amount of garbage and uninformed opinions that seem to resonate here. My worst fear is that PGI actually listens to some of it and makes changes to the game for the worst, so I try to provide counter arguments and counter examples to these things. It doesn't really work though, PGI caters to the lowest common denominator time and time again. Latest example is the "new Ghost Heat" power draw type thing.

I mostly post in new player help, helping the new guys is, in my opinion, well worth doing.

There is a lot of really great posters in the forum community. I have fun reading/debating/commentating even though I know PGI isn't really paying attention.

Though I do wonder if the Cyclops' weird quirks came about because of the thread where everyone pretty much said it added nothing to the game.

I like to think that my thread did it!

There really isn't any point to posting here, other than to bicker and argue among ourselves, or to wave our ever growing E-Peens around.

Its been a pretty long time since there was any interactivity from the PGI staff with the forum community.

Most everything gets done and discussed on Twitter, and I'm sure even Russ is getting bombarded on that from all directions.

Oh, and by the way, this is where I "play" MWO. I rarely play nowadays but keep a tab on MWO always open on the browser. #forumwarrior

******* pugs. I've been wrecking in my Raven 2x all day, 9/10 wins and most games around 350 damage, 2 over 800 with a couple kills each, so a decent run of games. We get conquest and I'm the first in the fight and starting to get hits. But it's conquest and team ******* at me to cap, so I do. They're not walking to a cap point or the enemy, so you can guess how this will go. I'm the only light capping and their locust has a hard on for standing in squares, so we get destroyed in points. before you know it, my team is all dead and we're 400 points down with only one capture point. So I chain my lasers to the sky to let the enemy find me quicker and get things done with. What do I hear from the same punk crying for me to cap? "what a little b!tch". I promised a while ago I'd never stand in another square, but in the effort to turn over a new supportive leaf, I did. **** that, back to doing my thing, which doesn't include voting for conquest or standing in squares if enough other people vote for it. You vote for it, you take your fat Atlas to capture theta.

The funny part is that so many people automatically assume the point of forums like these is to spew how they can make the game better and for the devs to listen to them. This is general discussion, there should be topics like:

"arm lock or no arm lock?"
"Show me your paintjob"
"X Giveaway!"
"Which lrms on what mech?"
etc.
Instead we've got about a dozen "PGI PELELEELEEEEEEEEASE LISTEEEN. GAME IS RoONED IF U DON;T!!!" threads for every 1 of the previous.

Believe it or not the Devs actually watch the forums and discussions taking place. Maybe not 100% and constantly, but its there.

Meanwhile things like Russ posting on Twitter are for the fact that they're quick, involve social media (an easy and open form of publicity), and can be used as a very informal way of communication. In contrast the forums tend to see 'official' posts in terms of raw info instead of side comments, discussion, and other such minor talk from the devs.

Nihilism is kinda cute from a certain angle...if you squint your eyes while flapping your arms and whistling the theme song to The Jeffersons.

The reason?

To make fun of trolls, of course!

Don't you love it when you poke them with a stick and they spit more senseless crap at you?
