Greetings Mechwarriors. Today I have a simple question. In honorable 1v1 zelbriggin, which of the following two mechs would emerge victorious, the Phoenix Hawk or the Viper? What loadout would you bring to assure your victory?

I would bet on the Viper.

I can carry more small weaponry to take advantage of the speed that allows it to get into close quarters combat.

The Phoenix Hawk is 5 tons heavier which means it needs to spend more tonnage to go the same speed, and has fewer energy hardpoints, which means it has to take heavier weapons that are more suited to long range.

I don't know how even a viper vs phx would be but I have been eyeing the Roc here recently. Fast bumpy fitted with a couple srm 4s and some medium pulse. I need to get it in smurfys to tinker with.

Actually, you're right. 4-5 of the 7 variants are hard point starved. Atleast it won't obsolete the Vindicator. Posted Image

The PHX demands its quirks before it enters the honorable duel.

Both mechs unquirked with equally skilled pilots? My money's on the Viper. Being 5 tons heavier is not likely to offset the survivability of the clan XL. However, pretty sure none of us expect the PXH to hit the game unquirked.

Viper seems like a better out of the box fighter, but who knows what the quirks will be. The Hawk could get something obscene XD

What scenario would the PHX have an advabtage over the viper?

Well, at least one variant has ECM + 6E. Coupled with 6 max JJ and an engine limit of 355, you can be almost as mobile as the Viper.

ECM doesnt really help it in the 1v1 scenario typically.

It sounds like at best the Viper's competition that can keep pace with it is a humanoid Jenner F that has 5 tons on it. Not very worrying to be honest.

If Phawk had a 3 missile variant, it could have the edge. But it doesn't.

This is a ridiculous thread. IS vs. Clanner mech threads always are. Clanners are supposed to be superior and they are for the meta/alpha-laser/garbage/zombie/hill-humper/alpha-streak builds. Pilots can make a difference but....ugh. That said, disregarding all kinds of strategy and use of terrain, I'll take the Phoenix Hawk any day over that Clanner trash, I like the challenge!

My money is on the PHX.
The Viper is going to be very hot, and will need to be able to disengage to cool off, something that you can't really do in a 1v1 against an almost as fast opponent.
In other words, the PHX (probably) has more sustained DPS, hence will win most of the time.

Phoenix Hawks, by virtue of being Phoenix Hawks, which no other mech except the Phoenix Hawk is, are unbeatable as all other mechs will spontaneously explode from feelings of envy and inadequacy the second a Phoenix Hawk loads onto the map. I shall hear no arguments to the contrary. I may also stick my fingers in my ears and shout "lalalalalalala" in a loud voice at length as this is a proven way to win arguments.

Also I may be slightly biased in favour of Phoenix Hawks due to overwhelming nostalgia and rose-tinted memories of the past, but I am still right because Phoenix Hawk.

Regale us.

Which game was this?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Mechwarrior game; otherwise I'd have some kind of memories; good or bad of it.

I have a feeling the Phoenix Hawk will be a slightly better Vindicator. I'd imagine the Viper would be better if both pilots were equal.
