Where Is A Guide To Weapons And Effective Ranges?

I'm really asking about when you use a long range weapon at short range.

In this case, the PPC that is carried on my Kit Fox (I love the way it scares HUGE Mechs as long as they do not know who shot it).

I tend to stay with the big mechs and use my 3 AMS and 2 tons of ammo while sniping. But I also keep the rear clean so I'm often taking on light mechs and a short range PPC blast does not seem to do much.

This has all the info you need about your weapons--damage, heat, CD, Max Full-Damage Range ("Range" or "Optimal Range") and Max Range (beyond which 0 damage), plus some averages, etc. Scroll down a bit to get the Ghost Heat™ penalties for weapons groups (http://mwo.smurfy-ne...eapon_heatscale).

To my knowledge, there are only three weapons with minimal ranges:
-IS PPC (not the ERPPC): Doesn't work under 90m)
-IS LRMs: Don't work under 180m
-Clan LRMS: Effectively useless at less than 90m; damage scales to zero from 180m to 0m.

Everything else does FULL DAMAGE up to it's optimal range (the one listed in the weapons grid in your HUD).

So your Kitfox's C-ERPPC does 15 damage at 1m and at 810m. From 811m to 1621m, it scales from 14.999 to 0.
