I think it would be really super cool if PGI held an annual 'Design a Hero Mech' competition and then added the winner to the game.
Players would submit a build, suggested quirks, a paint job (or a photoshop of a paint job), and some basic lore.
The winner would get their hero made for them and everyone else would be able to buy one for cash or MC.
What do you think?

its exactly what you are proposing but it was not here in the forum but in the NoGutsNoGalaxy forum - and I can't remember that anybody created the Quarantine or the Hellslinger.
The did the same with the very first Champions as well - Cataphract and Dragon
Anyhow it would be indeed nice to have it back
