I can understand a topic being locked, with an explanation.

But whole topics of several pages disapearing without notice?

Happens all the time. If a thread devolves into name and shame (or even just personal attacks) or discussions of cheating or moderation, as well as a few other violations of the tos, one of the mods will yank the whole thread multiple pages and all. Your own messages even disappear from your forum profile (it is probably thee most efficient mechanic in the entire MWO universe). Heck there are whole threads dedicated to this topic, wherein folks have requested that violators of the tos and others who might have been involved, receive a pm letting them know what happened and the general nature of the violation.

Meh.

Its too hard for volunteer moderators to pick and choose posts that are borderline or out right violations when coming into the thread after the fact (Scout Derek tries though and often even gives warnings) but sometimes a mod's gotta do, what a mod's gotta do.

It's totally dumb... So, instead of having closed topic where people can see what can get a topic locked, and why it is, they are just letting the next player create the exact same topic because there's no indication anywhere about the question being taboo.

That, beside the fact it look a lot more like censorship than moderation. Don't they have a community manager?

Exactly. Working as intended.

If they moderate the same way I know from some other large forums, then complete threads are probably just set to invisible mode (only mods and staff can view them) while they decide what to do with them depending on how severe the offence(s) is/are.

If there are only a few posts that need to be moderated, then they will be individually set to invisible mode and the thread is re-opened for the general public and the user(s) in question are notified accordingly.

If there are too many posts derailing the thread or the thread itself is deemed a clear violation of the mods sensitivities towards the rules, then it either stays invisible or gets shunted to the aviary here.
