Curious how many gigs of video memory does it have?

Both the 1080 and 1070 come with 8GB of ram. The 1080 will be using GDDR5x with a 320gb/s bandwidth, while the 1070 will be using the older GDDR5 with a 256gb/s bandwidth. Even with the 1070 being stripped down a bit, it is outperforming stock Titan X and stock GTX 980Ti's. Overclocked Titan X and 980Ti's still out-perform overclocked 1070's though, but the 1070 is almost 50% less in cost.

You probably have a potato CPU. 560Ti to 970 is a big jump and even in MWO it would have let you make some decent changes to your graphics settings.

Previously a 2500k OC'd to 4.5ghz which is still no slouch. Currently own a 6700k OC'd to 4.6ghz and yes, that made a pretty big difference. Especially when the game fills with lurms- those things clearly hit the cpu hard and now I get a more consistent, smooth frame rate.

But that was kinda the point I was getting at- the game is more cpu sensitive than gpu.

Even still, you should have noticed a difference going from 560Ti to 970. Hell, I noticed a difference going from the 570 to 770 back in 2013.

what does that actually upgrade? is there a link for a definition?

iirc it's around a ~15% increase, but are there actual hardware changes?

After I upgraded from my older 560Ti to my current 970, I saw very little if any gain in performance gain in MWO... so colour me skeptical we'll see much improvement with even the 1080. With that said, I'll most certainly consider a custom 1080 later down the road for other games, since the thing seems like a monster for 1440p.

heh, im running a 550TI, on lower vid settings and get 40+ FPS, and don't see it as much of an issue.. I don't think i will upgrade till the 980's are down around 150, or maybe the 1080 is that price.. :)

My HD-7990 still gets whatever frame-rate I want to have (such a beast), but I might 'upgrade' simply because it's having a lot of 'buggy graphics' problems. Stuff like grey polygons stretched out across the sky-box, or random flashing buildings, or odd bits of square pixels rendering in reverse color...

It's not just an MWO problem either, other games do the same (slime rancher surprisingly is very graphically glitchy for me). Not like I don't have the latest drivers either. I don't overclock it, so that's not the problem as well (not like I would ever need to).

I dunno... It's such a beast card, but with it acting up I kinda wanna replace it. I just can't bring myself to replace something I paid $1,000 new, after only a few years of using it.

I have a 780 Ti so I'm not in a HUGE rush to upgrade, but grabbing a 1080 Ti when it comes out does sound tasty. What's the deal with the aftermarket cards? Are they typically unstable? My ASUS 780 Ti has random kernal failures once in a while.

still have a 570 and it runs mwo fine on fullHD maxed without AA. I wait for 3rd party 1070 but I doubt MWO will benefit much from it.

Debating it. My GTX 770 is vastly overshadowed by the 1070 and 1080.

Eh, I dunno. I'm also using a GTX 770 and I've yet to play anything it can't handle on max settings.

Then again, I don't play that many computer games, so it's probably my lack of gaming variety that's helping keep my GTX 770 relevant. After all, I upgraded to the 770 from a 280. :-)

Any good reviews yet of the 1080 vs the Titan X? My Titan X is running my 3440x1440 34" 21:9 and MWO looks great. With such a wide screen, I get huge peripheral vision angles without the distortion that comes with using the slider. The game scales perfectly to fill the entire screen without having to "zoom" in to do so.

This spells out the difference between the 980 and 980TI. I expect a similar level of hardware and performance difference in the new cards.

Personally I'm waiting for the 1070 next week, glad I waited since I almost bought the 970 about a month ago.

Every review I have seen so far the GTX 1080 beats the Titan X in pretty much every game and resolution. Even the GTX 1070 seems to be more than a match for the Titan X depending on game.

If you have a Titan X, you should probably hold off for the 1080Ti. Both stock 1070 and 1080 beat stock Titan X (just slightly) but overclocked Titan X will still outpace overclocked 1070/1080

To an extent sure, but when newer drivers are released the Titan X will probably fall further behind overclocking or not. That being said I agree if you have a Titan X waiting for the 1080Ti or whatever new version of the Titan they release is probably the better option unless of course you want to mess around with VR in which case the Titan X doesn't really hold up as well when compared to the 1070/1080. VR support for the newer cards is much improved over the previous generation.

I would absolutely tell anyone with a 980 Ti or Titan X to skip the 1080; Unless you can really throw that much money around and don't care much, the gains just aren't that huge. The 1080 is a much more sensible upgrade for anyone with a 980/390X or less.

The 1080 is scratching the surface of what Nvidia can do with their new cards, the 1080 Ti (or next Titan) should be another significant leap when that comes out.

Honestly I wouldn't even bother with the 10xx series. Until I have HBM 2.0 on an Nvidia card, I will just stick with my 3x Titan Blacks.

Anyone know how the AMD Radeon R9 200 series compares? I think there is an R7 also? Thats 10 GB video memory.
