I'm a bit confused about the cool down modules, do they make the weapon run cooler, by producing less heat when fired, or actually shorten cool down time till it can be fired again ?

Thanks

They shorten cooldown time so you can fire the weapon quicker.

To that end, the actually have the potential to make you run hotter. E.g. if you are constantly firing medium lasers while running a cooldown module you will build up heat faster due to their firing quicker than you would otherwise.

PGI chose to use the word "cooldown" to represent the amount of time you have to wait between each shot you fire. Yes, it's confusing, no I don't have any idea why they thought this would be a good term. Calling it reload time or maybe recycle time would have been actually intuitive.

Yeah, it can. You just need to make sure your mech runs cool enough to warrant it.

Overall though, I'd say cooldown modules are more beneficial for Ballistics and possibly missiles too. If you are running with lasers, I'd lean more towards range modules instead.

Again though, it really just depends on how cool or hot your mech runs and what you think would be beneficial.

Cooldown was a very poor choice of words when designing modules regarding new players to Mechwarrior and the Battletech IP. They've changed a bunch of terms, even the Launch button to Play to make the interface easier for people. Not sure why Cooldown is still kicking around.

PGI though.

Cooldown and cooling rate or heat dissipation are obviously different. If of course your first language is english, you aren't sleepy, or drunk, or unfamiliar with LoL and the hundreds of other games that use the term to describe the period of time between being able to use abilities. Considering the world wide nature of the target audience... honestly... I've got no fracking clue why they'd use cooldown.

Global cool down has been around in many games for many yeas. It is what it is.
