Aftermarket 480's are still 3 weeks away. I'm expecting a decent boost since the reference seems very constrained by power and cooling.

Crimson 16.7.1 is soon to release with finetuning of the PCIe power draw, so it never exceeds the technical specifications under some specifc circumstances and also performance improvements.

Well, I will wait for the aftermarket and the GTX 1060 (tomorrow). Then I will make a choice - my GTX 650 is hitting its limit. If the 1060 is about the same price (+/- 30 Euro = ~ 300 Euro), AMD has lost a potential customer and I will stay with team green.

Btw: are there any benchmarks regarding the RX 480s performance in MW:O?

If I had to guess
The 3gb 1060 at 289$ to 299
And the 6gb version at 349

Since MWO has no actual benchmark tool
Kinda hard to get

But it performs bit better than a gtx970 in other games
Should here as well

I fear The price might creep too much into gtx1060 territory
Hope not
Also depending on how the gtx1060 will do

There are also reports out that rx480 cards with 4gb are actually 8gb cards with half disabled

seems people flashed the bios as well to get the 8 gb

Edit:
TechPowerUp AMD Retail Radeon RX 480 4GB to 8GB Memory Unlock Mod Works, We Benchmarked

Yeah, the 4GB's are 8GB's flashed to 4 for now. But as soon as 8"Ghz" gddr5 also comes in 512MB chips the party will be over.

There aren't that many 4GB cards for sale either of course, why sell them as 4GB when you can sell them as 8GB and make more money.

If I were to upgrade I'd probably choose an aftermarket 480 over an aftermarket 1060.

I don't care that much about 50W less powerconsumption and might want to upgrade to a screen with freesync.

Since this game is cpu heavy and dx11 only nvidia would probably be the safe choice, but I don't play as much as I used to.

GTX 1060 for $50 more gets you GTX 980 performance and uses 30W less than the RX 480. So whatever little advantage AMD had with the slightly smaller production node was certainly squandered. I think the RX 480 will be the 'budget' suggestion going forward still, at $199 it's great bang for the buck. For anybody that can spare $50 more, though, there will probably not be a reason to suggest the RX 480 over the GTX 1060. Guess we'll see when we get official reviews out in a couple of weeks.

An 1060 it is
6gb 250$ msrp
300$ for founder nonsense

Didn't think Nvidia would feel the need to go that "low" in price
Would've bet money on them being more greedy

With the outrageous coolers the board partners are mounting on these ~120W cards I'm not expecting many available at $250,-

Outrageous? Most of them seem pretty much on-par compared to the coolers on the 960s and 970s. Maybe something like $279 is a more reasonable expectation for something like an ASUS Strix 1060. I wouldn't be surprised if the same could be said about aftermarket RX 480s whenever they finally hit shelves.

So today I received the GTX 1060 I ordered (about 300 €) - RX is drawing too much power, not only exceeding PCIe specs but also exceeding the advertised TDP. Looking forward to put this thing into my rig. See you after the patch. I a Cyclops. :)
