I'd go ahead and upgrade the card to GTX1070.

For one, it won't break your budget, and two, the 1070 is twice the speed and power that 960 can offer. At last look, EVGA has a 1070 for no more than $469. To me, that there is steal. However, look around and see what competitors are offering in price as oppose to EVGA's version. Never know, you might get an even better price. Good luck on your new rig.

Once supply has caught up with demand prices should go down. And when the "real" high end cards show up in half a year they'll probably go down further.

Pascal has driven down the price of Maxwell at its release, so further price drops probably won't be inbound for at least 3-6 months. Though you may find a special at an electronics store like Fry's or Microcenter every so often to clear out some more space.

Honestly, it's kind of hard to share an opinion on the rig. You just say Core i5, and I see DDR4, so I can assume Skylake, but what model? Most of the i5s MWO would toss around like a ragdoll, but the K-series one when overclocked would be more than sufficient to max out your CPU-bound settings.

Then again, RAM speed also comes into account because anything lower than DDR4-3200 in dual-channel is gonna hold you back a tiny bit. It's not significant, but it's something to consider. On X99 platforms, it runs in quad channel so we don't have to worry about the bandwidth as much, only the latency, but on Z170 it can be a very slight detriment. I'd say if its less than DDR4-2666 then you'll want to upgrade if your motherboard will allow. I say IF because it seems like anything other than the Z-series chipsets will often have trouble even loading an XMP profile for the RAM.

I just built my GF a new system with an i5 6500 and ASUS H170 motherboard. It has performed excellent so far, but her GPU (a lowly GTX 750) is holding her back by A LOT. Just waiting for the GTX 1060 to be released so we can finish the build. I imagine if she were playing MWO at high settings she'd have a pretty good framerate when we're done.

If all you're playing is Mechwarrior at 60fps on a 60Hz monitor @1080p, you might as well just stick with a GTX 960. If you have a 144hz monitor @1080p, or a 1560x1440 at 60hz or 144hz, then a GTX 1070 would be well worth it. I'm currently using a GTX 1070 on a 1920x1080 144hz monitor (running 120hz for 120fps lock in MWO).

Right now I may wait. That is a little out of my budget right now for a card. I will save up some more and then see. Hopefully there will be a sale on them some time. I'd really love to get the 1070 cause that would be amazing.

November most likely, Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I'm Currently Planning on saving for a EVGA GTX 1060 to Replace my Visiontek AMD Radeon HD 6970 2GB, Current Prices are ~$340-360 Canadian (For a EVGA GTX 1060, Checked Newegg Canada, NCIX Canada & Canada Computers). Hopefully by then some (more) Benchmarks will be available to see how it handles 3x 1080P Displays.

Nvidia and AMD positioned the 1060 and 480 for the 1080p and entry-level VR market. If you're going beyond 1080p on these cards, you'll have to turn some settings down but they're still pretty freaking fast for their prices.

If you want to know how the 1060 will handle anything, just look at 980 results. The 1060 is within a few percent (like, 1-5% depending on the app). That'll give you a good idea of what you should be getting.
