Hello, everyone!

Since this is my first post I would like to use this moment to say hello the the MWO community.
I hope that we can have a lot of fun together and have some good sportsmanship in game.

I also noticed that while playing that I am not very sure what I am supposed to be doing. Normally I pick a mech with long-range weapons and stay behind the largest group of my team, trying to play a bit like a "sniper".

What is the general idea what I should be doing in a match?

Take this awesome guide into account and you'll go a long way already!

Their AMS, if so equipped, is also useful in boosting your own AMS's defenses.
12 AMS is nearly impenetrable.

I once saw a team with 26 AMS. Not even SRMs could reach them when fired at close range.

If you don't have the target locked and are not sharing the 'red dorito of doom' with your team... get closer.

Was only 2 of them. Some Atlas Ks, some firestarter and several twin ams heavies

My Dream 12 is 8 ECM covered Hellbringers and 4 Kit Foxes. You would have to "see us" to see us. Targeting would be hard to do. We could move fast and under cover.

If this game had a decent chat, I could ask another Kit Fox pilot to be in the same match as I. Just to see it. At my low level, LRMS are everywhere. I made a sniper version of one of my Vipers. With it's jump jets I could get on top of anything and shoot down at range. But the Viper does not have ECM so after or it seemed before a shot, I'd get incoming missiles. And staying at least 1000Ms away is not easy if you are going to help your team.

So I brought out my sniper Kit Fox and the difference was big. Now I see why the sniper you always have a problem finding is the ShadowCat (Which I plan to buy some). I then added the 3 AMS back on my Kit Fox sniper and did some tests. When I turned ECM off, I got missiles and shots fired back at me. With it on I did not.

I also found this to be a good way to get the other side to waste missiles. I'd turn my ECM off, take a few shots and then run to avoid and shoot down missiles. I figure that each one wasted on me was one that was not hitting a larger teammate who could not avoid them.

In the beginning it's best to stick with the group and use builds that are focused on one or two weapons.
If you find that to be fun that's good. If you want to play in an alternate way with light mech or fast mediums i might have something interresting.

It's a way to play that can be done with any mech build whether focused or a jack of all trades. The only demand is for the mech to have a certain amount of speed.
Furthermore it's really hard to get used to my tactics and you will die a LOOOOT before you adapt. Your reward?

Your reward is bigger kicks of adrenaline during your matches and the ability to adapt to any situation. Furthermore you can throw the meta way of building a mech out the window if you wish to do so.

Fair warning...that guide is a textwall monster 5 posts long. You will probably need time to read and understand it's contents.

My tactics turned a player who felt like he was mediocre player into an adrenalin junkie with a taste for random mayhem.
If you have any questions feel free to send me a PM.
