So yeah. My son has his own MWO account now. Posted Image

Which incidently means I can't blame any bad playing from me on him anymore. (though there's still the daughter, but she has only been on the training grounds) Posted Image

He's only 8 years old, has played a whole whopping 2 matches on his own account now, and in all honesty I don't know if he'll actually become competent the coming few years, though he's willing to learn.

And while he has both a W/L and K/D record of 1-1 atm you can expect him to do stuff like standing absolutely still in his trial Arctic Cheetah, so he can shoot those ERSL at long range with more accuracy, for over 30 seconds....

His VOIP is turned off, and he probably won't realise you're chatting with him even if you do so in Dutch (don't expect any English). Oh, he also plays on a potato so there's that too.

So if you encounter a player named 'TimpieTampie', don't rage at his skill level please. He's just a small boy enjoying himself immensely piloting these oh so cool mechs. Just think of him as a Mechwarrior fan for the future. I already play BattleTech with him, this is the next step, gotta pass the passion on you know.

Long day at the office, I could do with a giggle. Cheers mate.

Wrong time zone, but if I ever pick up a head set and see him on, I'll teach him some naughty songs. Posted Image

Wens hem (en haar) heel veel plezier. :)

Oh, that is just adorable! Posted Image

Well, we all enjoy the game in out own way, I suppose. Maybe it is a good thing he does not realize the chatting as sometimes people can be a little vulgar.

I hope that he has a lot of fun, maybe he will improve slowly and steadily!

It's really awesome getting your son into the game. My son plays as well, well when I can get him away from his xbox. He's slightly older, but does the same things. When we play together I usually shout out PROTECT the little one! It's almost like a new gamemode! It's pretty cool most ppl are willing and able to help out on the team. btw THX guys if you ever seen sonofaomaha running about!

Funny story, I had done an event for him to get a TBR-C(C) and set it up all meta like. He says to me dad, I don't like it! lol.

Greetings to a new Mechwarrior! Mine is 10 years old and he is really good with Spiders! So..
we shall become real armchair generals in a few years?

This is why we need an escort gamemode, lol It's so much fun just trying to protect a single mech, or to take out one single mech. IE PGI Hunt.

Not trying to imply that I will gun for your sons, and daughters. But if you say or ask team to protect your offspring. Perhaps typing in all chat. Ppl do gun for them, being on the side of wanting to protect my son. It adds a sh@tton of excitement.

We all know everyone has been there, such and such player is good make sure to take him out asap. Or the PGI Hunt (Protecting them or hunting them, the crappy part was finding a match with one in it.)

It's just something I noticed while trying to escort my son about, it really is like a new gamemode, and makes it just that much better. It's not like protecting an assult mech either, although similar it's nowhere near as exciting. Because often my son pilots mediums, or lights, and runs in a panic pattern shooting everywhere but the enemy LOL. So I'm shouting tips, and or directions downstairs to his pc while trying to protect him as best as I can.

Shooting at random? I love random mayhem. Who doesn't?

But yeah....a gamemode like that would be a lot of fun. Only problem is the whiners who will complain of the VIP getting killed.
You know the kind of whiners i'm talking about...those who blame a single player for the match being lost because of some tiny little thing.

If I get to see him online I will watch his back in my Arctic Cheetahs. If he is on the red team, I will let him go. :)

You know what... All you guys/girls with kids that wanna play together should try to set up a night where you get to play private matches with your kids..

1, Everyone is in the same boat..

2, have a blast with your kids

3, People are not going to be acting like jerks towards them for not playing "right"

4, You get to choose any map/mode you want..

My guess is there are more than enough people to get yourselves some 4v4, 8v8 or even 12v12 matches going.. Maybe try weekly, or bi-weekly, or monthly?? I dunno.. Get the word out and go for it.. You only need 2 people with premium time to get a private match going, not to mention the day passes are only 250 MC,, 7 bucks for 5 nights of fun time with your kids seams like a steal to me..

With a WL and KD like that hes already better than quite a few players I've known who are much older.

If he moves up the tiers and happens to get in a match with me I'll try and help him out.

Cool idea, though I bet you'd get some guy show up in some meta-boat min-maxed to the hilt. Explaining in a suspiciously deep voice: "no really, I am nine". Posted Image

His stats are better than his father's as well!! Posted Image (though not when looking at that Arctic Cheetah)

Thanks for all the kind words people. It's a real joy to so how many can just enjoy MWO as the game it is, and games are meant to be fun. I never find a reason to rage at a team member that's just no good, I usually just type some advise like "if your reticule doesn't flash red you are not doing any damage". I just can't understand the rage some people vent at not so competent players.
Sure that player won't be winning you the match now he's the last man standing, but I bet you were not complaining when you excercised your l33t skillz in demolishing that Trebuchet that tried to hit you with its LRMs at 50m range and never twisted but kept staring at you.

My son's at a week long Scouting camp right now but once he's back I'll help him find his place in the game. I wonder what his first mech will be, though looking at the matches he played on my account he seems to be leaning towards Lights or Mediums.

I'll make sure he tries some of the advanced courses in the academy (why don't those have any awards?) and I'll see if I can coach him with some 1 on 1 matches, though that'll require him winning some Premium Time.

See you on the battlefield fine gents and ladies!

Yeah, my son plays MWO with me sometimes. He's getting better, and he will be awesome once he completely understands what to do when. There is a HUGE learning curve, and he has autism with a lot of obessive-compulsive tendencies.

Once things get locked in for him though, he never forgets, so I know he will be great at MWO, it's just getting to the locked in point is frustrating beyond belief.

Argh.

But, we dropped a few times and some of my friends wanted him to join their group as well. THAT made him really happy.

We really do have a great community here!

I have to give a thumbs up to the parents on here that are involved in the games that their kids are playing. I work in Higher Ed. and all too often parents have no clue and wonder why they are so disconnected from their kids. (I love parents that blame their kids age for that) I have found that even though MWO can be unforgiving at times in the learning curve department, there are so many in the community that care about the players and overall player experience that it truly puts the "flamers" (the few needing some Yin/Yang in their life) in the minority. Just keep maintaining that "Fun" aspect of the game and that it's not big deal to go out in a blaze of glory whether your winning the match or not.

In the end, it's all just a game and games were created with FUN/ENTERTAINMENT in mind.

I hope I have the privilege of meeting you all on the battlefield cause it sounds like a blast!!!

Take care and keep up the good fight

Escort mission where the 'package' is a completely unpredictable, happy go lucky 8 year old, darting off in every direction at once, dashing through enemy lines singing 'Everything is Awesome' while firing their weapons at anything that moves?

I can play that a few times a week.

I'm here to have fun.
