If it's humanoid in shape, it can go f*ck itself with a cactus.

People have been asking for more 20 ton lights. They've asked for the crusader (though it just fills the same weight/fire support role as a catapult), Mongoose would be a nice alternative at 30 tons to a spider, the mercury has the speed cap issue so its unlikely to be it, Hermes also has speed cap issues but it does have the variants issue solved.
However... lights are not likely to be as appealing to players as mediums, heavies and assaults.
Therefore...my leading guess for a medium is the hatchetman (but that requires the hatchet...which they could assign as a very short range weapon with say a max range of 10 meters), the heavy will be a Guillotine, and for an assault Hatamoto-Chi (it has at least four known variants explained in the TRO, plus a baseline model, which very nicely solves the 3 basic variants, 2 reinforcements, and there's a hero variant also already).

Not really, it could easily be something up to 3055 provided weapons are all in game.

Well the Mongoose is actually 25 tons. Good 30 tonners would be the Javelin & with some creative licensing, the Hussar.
Currently there are more mediums in game than any other weight class with heavies not far behind, especially with the recent clan mechs, 2 meds, 2 heavies. Assaults are getting the Cyclops but are still few lacking when compared with the meds & heavies.
IMO, a light with lots of variants is actually what it should be. To offset the perceived lower value PGI could just put in an extra variant or two. (Javelin anyone?)
If it's not a light it should be an assault for previously mentioned reasons, specifically it should be a 95 tonner as the only IS 95 tonner is the Banshee. Which brings us to which 95 tonner it should be. The choices are good but not numerous.
#1 is the Nightstar, this is my preferred choice. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Nightstar
2. Cerberus, also excellent.

As a light I would like to see a Stinger or Wasp.
A Wraith would be my choice for a medium, but I do not think there is a way to create 3+ variants.
And as good as the Devastator is I would prefer a Pillager. 100 tons and JJs. Love that idea

Axman? Without melee combat (they did not even manage to bring collision damage back)? I do not think so, but I would like it.

I'm holding out for the Crusader. But a Bushwhacker would be dandy.
I was going to like this post...
But then I read "Bushwacker" and almost threw up...

Wow...nice hardpoints. What's not to like? And an ECM variant also?
Yes, please.

MAD II would finish off the compliment of Marauder variants, but would be seen as lazy. I don't care, I still want one. That or a King Crab hero with MAD II harpoints.
Nightstar next most popular after bushwacker, i think

Well really we're due for a new light, by the time we get it it'll have been 1 year since the last light was released. We're getting the Cyclops but it is true that assaults are the second least represented class.
As for a "Clan crusher" I don't want to ruin your dreams but the Annihilator wouldn't be that. If PGI were to bump up it's engine cap generously it'd be as fast as a Dwolf. It does have nice hard points... But they're low & it has that protruding head which will draw lots of fire... It's only real value is nostalgia.
