If you are thinking of trying out the Scout mode in FP for the purpose of the event, here is a tough little 'Mech for you to try. Runs cool, has good quirks to increase it's survivability and has adequate DPS (Damage Per Second) to deal with those pesky SkillCrows (SCR equipped with CS-SRM6).

HBK-4SP

I would recommend the SPL range module and SRM6 cooldown, possibly Radar Deprivation to help get in close using cover to break locks and remember to aim for the upper legs, namely the hip joint ;)

best mech for collectig missions
SHD-2H

runs cool
high alpha
go for CT

a bit short on ammo for QP but for scouting more than sufficient.

when protecting there should be at least one faster mech in the team

Griffin 3M with 4 SRM4 and a flamer and an XL350 (more or less).

Fast, Brawly and runs fairly cool.

When trying to defend the Intel and kill the invaders a Locust (which QP players love to death in FW... literally) is definitely the way to go. Nobody runs 5x SSRM stormcrows after all.... you will definitely not get one-shot killed by homing weapons from an opponent you didn't even see in that little ball of trouble. That just doesn't happen in FW.. lol

(Oh and forget the legs on the stormcrow. Take your time and line up a headshot if you see that mech)

Or you could forgo a Clan loyalist's advice on the matter and just do what xXPUGXx recommends and run the hunchback with good dps and the internal structure durability of an 100 ton assault. The griffin also works.. Those might be just slightly better ideas...

If you *must* go locust, I highly recommend doing a Pirates Bane w/ ECM and an ER PPC and annoy the heck out of your enemies...

They are *very* fun, especially on maps like Boreal!

I have been playing scouting with 2 mechs, one for gather and one for protect:

Protect: HBK-4P(C) (a modified "PARTYBACK!" -- yes I have lights and a disco globe.)
Gather: PHX-2

I have had great success with these two -- having said that my role on gather is to just gather and to only fight at the drop zone while on protect it is to core them out as quick as possible and / or leg as quick as possible.

Shadowhawk-2H2 or 2K for both Protect and Gather.
Out for killz every time. Of course your mates need to be on their tanky Mediums as well to be successful.
