I've been looking for more IS heavies, since I've got the TBR on the clan side already. I've heard good things about the Whammy and I am wondering which variant to get for now. The 6R looks pretty tempting with a couple of ballistic slots.

Also, are they XL safe? I have a 340 XL, but I don't know if I should use it or not.

Yes. They are good. Meta even.
Just fine with XL, even for a terribad like me.

Warhammers are very XL safe and the 6R is a great mech. Warhammer builds typically use a 335XL or less though

Lots of variety too. 2Uac5 with 2ppc, or my current favorite of 2 UAC5 with 6ml running an xl330 (cuz I had one). I know many people running a super stock hammer with 4spl, 2mg, an SRM-6 or ASRM-4, and of course 2ppc. 2AC10 4ML builds are fun too.

Nope.
6D is all about that XL340 life.
6R can be for AC10s and medium lasers

Yep.
Usually 3 lg pls, and a number of mediums depending on what engine you decided to use.

Cool. And I pulled the 295 XL off of my Catapult, so I can run similiar builds to the 300 XL to farm XP and cash for the last variant. :3

Spring for a 300XL. Nearly the same weight, holds one more heat sink.

I'll work on it. I blew the last of my cash buying the third variant. Yay for sales! :3

They are great. Unless you actually run it as a WHM-6R.
But as a generic vomit boat, it works rather well.

Since almost all good builds have been mentioned, I present you with this:

WHM-6R

Dual AC/20 + Quad ML. Drop one ML, add 1t ammo, etc. according to your preference.

Not often seen because of good reasons but it's still very viable on QP and most importantly, fun to play! It also lives up to the Warhammer name.

EDIT: A little how to use the 'Mech:
  • First, you set the dual boom (AC/20) to group fire
  • Play the waiting game like a brawling Atlas
  • See an enemy up close, spring out from hiding and:
  • "Fire everything!" (cue Nero in Star Trek)
  • get back to hiding and set the AC/20 to stagger fire
  • cool down, rinse and repeat, or get ready to brawl (with the AC/20 set to chain fire)

No such thing as a bad War Hampster, only bad loadouts and pilots. The 6R is great pretty much which ever way you choose to go!

I grabbed the 7S before knowing it was the "worst" variant. It's one of my most powerful mechs right now, with 5LLs, and even made a pretty good MPL/SRM brawler.Really can't go wrong with any of them.

can't do much wrong with it. I run it with STD and MLs/PPCs (yes PPCs in the arms because fox the meta) and got good results. Right now I'm trying a 2xGauss/ER-PPC build and that works, too (Who'd had thought that, i know).

So in the end just throw some weapons at it, see what sticks and go with it. Looks like you can't do much wrong with it.
