Question from a noob players.

What are the conditions that prevents me to switch from single to double heatsink?

Do all the IS mechs have the capabilities to use double HS?

Yes, all IS mechs are able to equip the double heatsinks, but it comes at a 1.5 mil CBill price tag. There is no real reason (aside from a few trolly builds) to run single heatsinks. The only build I can think that runs OK on singles is a dual gauss, since you aren't generating heat anyway.

Consider the upgrade price part of the purchase price when you buy a new mech and it'll save a lot of heartache later on.

Don't forget that you'll have to re-equip the double heatsinks as well, and may need to purchase them (although they aren't that expensive).

Funds: You need a minimum of 1,500,000 cbills to make the conversion.
You'd also need to have a total of at least 10 heatsinks (the amount within the engine [i.e. 200 = 8, 175 = 7, 225 = 9, 250 = 10] and those added to the body) to be able to use the mech.

That conversion is made in the mechlab, Weapons tab, lower left with 4 rows to switch different items.

ARMOR...Standard - Ferrous Armor
Heat Sinks...Single/standard - Double (preferred 99%)
Structure...Standard - Endo Steel (preferred over Armor upgrade)
Missile Guidance...Standard - Artemis (for SRM/LRMs - tighten up/bonuse for Direct Line of Fire, not indirect fire)
