I honestly want rear-view mirror for free -- no strings attached, but i do see a possibility of the game being also balanced with the ability of being unable to see behind, allowing sneak-attack from behind.

What if Rear-view mirror is PIP, and uses a module? Doing so replaces the battle-grid view from below, and has to be manually accessed, like manually using Advanced Zoom. Like how the battle-grid is not accessible when in 3PV. Compare that to Adv. Seismic Sensor 250m, you can "see" in a 250m bubble around you regardless of cover, the RV mirror PIP could show 120-degrees behind the mech, of up to infinity distance, of course still limited by cover.

I have seismic and 7.1 surround to tell me what's behind me, this should just be a thing and not a module.

Even though light mechs would most likely hate this, doesn't make sense a simple rear view camera doesn't exist this far into the future.

Nothing about mech construction makes sense. My radar has a 1 click range against 20 meter tall targets and I don't have DAS, but instead have a window.

Seismic sensor in my most valued module. It's on all of my mechs even before Radar Deprivation which is my second choice. I often pause for a second just to see if there are any blips.

But it doesn't help while you're moving whereas a rear view camera would. A rear view camera wouldn't replace a seismic sensor because a camera can't see through walls, hill etc.

A lot of the fiction mentions a 360 camera that compresses all that into a 100-180 degree arc on a display. Presumably not in the game because Mech sims arnt fun when experienced through a sea of vomit.

Realistic weather effects? Yes, please.

PGI claims that is is a limitation of the engine and that they cant draw one screen over the other without a performance hit or something.

As a work around I suggest the ability to zoom in and out on the minimap. This would let you zoom in when there were multiple friendly mechs clustered up so you know if your retreat path out of a poke is clear or not.

And yet rear view mirrors have been of every racing game for as long as I can remember. And these cars are moving fast.

Then again I'm anything but computer literate, so I guess I'll take PGI's word for it.

Rear view mirror is in the same place as lbx-autocannons.

Use search function.

The current engine needs to draw both images, so will 1/2 your frame rates.

The solution is simple: switch screen to a full rear-view display.

How many racing games use Cryengine? Serious question as I have no idea.

The only "performance" efficient way is to switch to the rear view camera when you want to use it. Having it render at the same time with the default cockpit view is cost prohibitive (for performance) in the type of rendering Cryengine uses.

I already despise the module system as-is, and I do NOT want another mechanic that mechs had in previous games locked behind a magical page all like advanced zoom is currently. Speaking of which, can someone campaign for that module to be removed and turned into a base mechanic already, and while at it, get PGI to actually have picture-in-picture advanced zoom finally? Thanks.

Isn't it exactly what MechWarrior 4 used to have?

Yeah but computers have gotten a lot worse over the last 15 years.

Oh, wait.

Isn't it ironic?

In MechWarrior 2 (in 1995, more than twenty years ago) we had a rear-view PiP camera.

In MechWarrior 4 (in 2000, sixteen - hell, almost seventeen - years ago) we had a switchable full-screen rear-view camera.

In MechWarrior Online (in 2016 - in the 21st century when computers are ten-times more powerful than they were twenty years ago) we have no rear view ... Thanks, PGI. Posted Image
