I picked a Jenner as my founder mech. Hoping it can fill that role.

1. Scout hunting
2. Scouting (just using a medium chassis)

It could be called a hunter if you like to locate and mark larger targets for destruction by you lance mates in the mediums and heavies

Edit: Oh yes, this is a heat stable build as well. What a nice little chassis!

However, the real sweetspot for scout hunter is in the 40-45 ton range at 97kph (and jump), think Pheonix Hawk or Clint. These mechs are fast enough to chase away pesky scouts, but well armored and armed enough to mix it up on the battlefield. Unfortunately we have not seen any yet.

Or the CN9-D. 50 tons, 97kph, long range weapons, and an ac10 for big punch. It can run after half the mechs in the light class (Commando and Raven), and the other half it can chase off with long range weapons.

Granted you can reclaim some of that engine tonnage with XL engines, but still the mechs lack any arm mounted weapons making it more difficult to track fast mechs. And if either of those mechs run into a Jenner they are going to get shredded. The idea of a scout hunter is not to out run the scout, it is to outgun the scout, you only need enough speed to intercept with your superior firepower (and how do you get superior firepower? you sacrifice speed, not armor, speed).

I agree with you there, the Jenner has more firepower then given on any Ligh Mech at the moment, the Cicada... Eh, I'm not sure what Variant it is, though I would like it if they put the small laser in the rear. Also, why not add flammers to your Raven? A rumor I heard is that they do not generate alot of heat to the person that uses them, but alot to the person on whom the user is using it on. So if that is the case, why not add a flamer or two to over-heat the scout 'mech so that it is forced to Shut down, and then you are free to damage it's legs so that it can't escape, thus enabling you to deliver the killing blow.

Way faster, you can run down a Jenner no trouble, then jump on it from a quarter kilometer away for your DFA attack.
sry.
I'm so going to buy me one of those though.

Preferably I'd take a medium, as above the Cicada is ideal given released mechs.

I would love it if the Phoenix Hawk could appear, but alas it is Unseen and they are not allowed. Only those from Crusher Joe and Dougram are, but things like the Warhammer and Archer? Nope. So there maybe a slim chance we might be able to see the following:
Shadow Hawk
Thunderbolt
Locust (dear god I hope so)
Wolverine.
Maybe.
