Currently I'm leaning towards being a Scout and thinking of piloting a Spider.  I'm curious which Mechs other future Scout pilots are deciding to use and what your reasons are.  The Spider looks like it can be really annoying to the larger slower Mechs.

I plan on piloting a Commando. Not quite as fast as the Spider or Jenner, nor jump-capable, but it hits extremely hard with 10 total SRMs. Plus it has some pretty cool variants.

Also helps that it's one of my favorite CBT miniatures that I own ;)

When I go light, it'll be in a Raven. If my main role in a match is spotting and tagging then I'll want the electronic gizmos to do it properly, plus I think it looks better than the others.

Spider or Commando.

I want to harass and engage the enemy just long enough to let the heavies and assaults make it to the field, then turn and sprint away. I need to actually play to see whether high power or high speed will work the best for me.

I'm planning on running a Cicada. Well, I also intend to experiment some with the Commando to see which of the two I prefer. But at present I'm assuming the Cicada will be my main ride. Although the Cicada has pretty weak armor to start with it has the largest frame of the dedicated scouts to add armor to. So with it's speed and a little work it could potentially be a pain to put down.

I think a Raven could actually be best suited for a scout, but Jenner does seem cool. I hadn't even considered a Cicada, but from your description it sounds really neat. Any idea of what armor you'd want on it?

A scout role would probably take some skill piloting. You'd have to be able to think fast and dodge.

Love the Raven but the Jenner seems to have more ooomph to it. Raven is supposed to have better electronics package but would like to see how thats done in game.

Well, without getting a chance to experiment in the mech lab it's hard to see exactly how things are going to be able to work out, but looking at the designs I've put together using the table top rules in preparation for my chance to get into the game, I'm currently looking at about 6.5 tons of ferro fibrous which is right about in line with the max that the Jenner or Raven would be capable of at max armor (three armor points of max for a 35tonner; only about 84.67% coverage for a 40tonner but still with the greater internal structure of a 40tonner it has a slightly better capability to take damage than what you could manage with a 35tonner). Now overall survivability is hampered by the need for an XL engine to maintain the Cicada's speed and still mount any reasonable weaponry, but I think the overall package offers quite a bit to work with. And the combination of speed and armor coverage should outweigh the negatives of the XL engine in this case though I'm usually not a fan of them.

Going Commando myself as it is traditionally a Lyran mech. That, and I like being the underdog...

I'm wondering how the electronics gear is going to work in the mech lab. Would I be able to mount a beagle probe and a tag to a mech that normally doesn't have electronics or if I want access to those will I have to use a Raven since of the mechs that have thus far been announced it is the only one that typically carries them?

Good question. I'd like to see it exclusive to certain mechs like the Raven. The Raven doesn't have the best weapon slots and if you can just equip out another light or even a Cicada with the same electronics then seeing Ravens on the battlefield would become as rare as hens teeth.

My only issue with that would be if they were going to limit the electronics to only electronics equipped mechs, I'd want to see more than just one in the game. I'd hate to be forced into using the Raven just cause I want a damned Beagle Probe.

Jenner is what I choose. It seems to pack a wallop and has high speed and jump capability. That kind of mobility would make for an excellent scout and coupled with that firepower it could easilly work as a skirmisher of sorts and harrass the slower mechs.

Spider or Raven is a tough call. I love both of those mechs but I think the spider more suited for bobbing and weaving and general medium range harassment.

Pretty much this is what it is going to boil down to for me...
With a Jenner there isn't much point in using a Raven, except if the Raven has a longer scan range or if some of the EW stuff is raven specific..

I actually plan to try both a Spider and Commando also......Getting a commando into 11/17 speed (with XL engine) will be fun to try :D....that and a 10/15/10 spider

Hoping for a Wolfhound. Tough little 'Mech, no ammo concerns and quick. more than good enough to stand against another light. Failing that, I may not even roll a light mech pilot now that they put out the Centurion, but if I do its a Raven.
