I hate to say it, I'm not sure Hollywood wouldn't muck it up.

Someone send Joss Whedon the Warrior Trilogy.

Sadly after that his awesome work on the Avengers I would think he would be a little too pricey at this point. I have a feeling he is going to be busy making ALOT of Marvel movies for the forseeable future.

Simple question, would you want Hollywood to make a Mechwarrior movie that is true to the Battletech Universe?

Depends on director, producer, script and budget. If all three aren't decent then no. Location is largely irrelevant these days.

I second the Neill Blomkamp suggestion. Let him make a movie about an Elemental or IC Battlesuit team killing a lone atlas or some other big imposing mech, that's cut off behind enemy lines.

It would be like the 1988 movie The Beast.

Movie? No.

A TV series similar to Stargate? Hell yes!

I liked The Beast. Pretty good movie. Though how a bunch of mujahideen would've gotten a hold of some battle armor is bey... oh. I get ya. Good idea!

Uwe Boll is the only one "Brave" enough to pick this one up.

... and everyone knows that he lives on the tears of gamers.

I'm sure as long as they brought in the cast from Jersey Shore they could do a movie that would not only be faithful to the canon but do the entire IP justice.

It depends on who you have working on it, it would have to be people who truly respect the game and source material, other wise forget about it.
It wasn't too long ago I wouldn't want anyone touching comic book properties like Hell Boy or 300 until Guillermo del Toro and Zack Snyder adopted said projects as fellow fans. I doubt MechWarrior has that type of champion in Hollywood as of yet, I'll be happy to wait untill we do.

One way to keep a Battletech movie true to the lore would be to have Peter Jackson do it. He did an admirable job of keeping LOTR true to the story.

I'm guessing you either (a) didn't read the books (B) missed the third movie. PJ did a great job on the first two movies. Cutting Tom Bombadil was a good call. But the removal of the Shire battle in the third movie destroyed the closing. That battle is the only reason the hobbits were even accepted back. (not to mention, why Sam gets married). Hobbits were not held in high regard if they went adventuring. I never watched the movies agian after seeing the third movie. He royally screwed the pooch. Everybody knew by then that they'd be long movies, and even J(o)K(e) Rowling had the good sense to split the closing if it were cumbersomely long. Clipping out minor plot points, OK. Removal of MAJOR plot climaxes, f-ing unforgivable.

A film making industry that too a film called the ITALIAN Job and moved it from Italy to LA and still called it the Italian Job. Making a true to canon BT movie? They would move it to France, have Mechs made by Audi, and the warriors would all be asylum seekers in transit to the UK

How many successful BT and MW dark age novels are there? Sure, Hollywood could adapt this well. Let's just hope it's not done by the guy that did Gamer.

Whedon or JMS would do admirable jobs.

No, cuz they'd have to put a love story in it, and that just gets in the way of the violence and destruction. Besides, we already have the amazing Shock Jox movie

There's even romance in the books though to some extent. The Ghost novel comes to mind. It can work, it just can't be the main plot point. There's even Tasha Kay (Anastasia Kerensky) and her bondsman medic whom she toys with... Hate to break it to you romance haters, but the bt universe is FULL OF IT. It's a universe built around mankind's inability to agree, much like real life. (Hey, we even know who Victor Steiner-davion married...Don't tell me romance isn't in bt)

An adaption of Decision at Thunder Rift might work, relatively small number of characters and limited locales, plus the story wouldn't need huge explanations of the social and political history of the Inner Sphere. Got to agree with the majority here though that the hollywood stupidity of trying to create a 'blockbuster' would probably strangle any BT movie at birth, or create an abomination. A tv series might be possible, as it would allow the time to establish the who's and what's of the universe, though a tv shows more limited budget might create some ugly cgi mechs. It would be awesome if done well, the problem being the 'done well' part.

Hell one plus to a movie or tv show, if it has any financial support maybe they could get the license to the unseen back to use. :D
