Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with the Commando. It's a great, well-balanced light mech.

You can choose which weight class you want to start with, so you should put a mech for every category. ;)

Light: Urbie
Medium: Enforcer
Heavy: Grasshopper
Assault: Victor

I agree, the Commando is an excellent mech.

Give me a Valkyrie (if possible) or a Javelin (Fire Jav version), Enforcer, Grasshopper, and Atlas or Victor.
The rest of the 'Sphere can burn around me for all I care after that. *Evil laughter*

Going to have to go with the commando. Good solid mech and cheap to boot.

Wolfhound is a good choice, but I see that as more of an advanced mech.

Kinda the heavy hitter of the light group.

Since we are talking about house davion here it should be a Valkyrie, Javelin or Urbanmech.

Not to go offtopic, but it's been stated in at least one dev Q&A and I think someplace in the FAQ or the announcements section that people will be able to pick any weight class of their choosing when starting the game. However, unlike previous installments in the Mechwarrior series, bigger is not always better. Especially considering the focus on information warfare /// electronic warfare, I think a light or medium with BAP/Passive Radar will be able to easily duck in and out of cover (especially in an urban environment) to focus down a heavy or assault while taking little to no damage from them. Using mobility, position, teamwork, tactics, etc, a Raven can run around tagging enemies with NARC while Catapults or Longbows use indirect LRM fire to wreck them from afar. I think this and team balance (by weight class, tonnage, BV, or something along those lines) will ensure a great play experience for anyone using any weight class.

<3

Anyhow:

Light: Javelin, but Fireball would probably make more sense
Medium: Sentinel or Centurion
Heavy: Jagermech? :3 Archer maybe?
Assault: Gotta go with the Victor here.
