I'm sure there will not be big differences between the Houses. Just enough to add flavour and varity.

Honestly... I am mostly just waiting for Clan Wolf to become an option (introduced to the universe through Mechwarrior 2 at a young age.)

House Davion, however, has always been my favorite of the houses. I cannot really say why for sure but I think at least part of it would stem from the fact that they gave you access to clan-tech in Mechcommander 2 (another early part of my experience with the universe), and in the end of that game you were on their side as if they were the good guys all along. I guess I just always associated them as the good guys compared to the other houses even though I know all houses have their dirty laundry.

But like I said. Once Clan Wolf gets added as a playable faction I am jumping ship.

House Davion is the house you fought for in MechCommander 1.(It was a botched Davion invasion vs defending Clan Smoke Jaguer) I'm not sure about MC2 as I hated that sequel and didn't put much time into it. You can also fight for Davion in MW 4 Mercs in the Davion vs Steiner civil war.(Or you can side with Steiner) It might also be in other MW 3-4 titles as well but I can't remember them well enough. But there are basically waring factions from the Houses in every game. MW 4 Mercs btw also has the Capellan Corporation(House Liao) and you can fight them or for them on a few missions. In the branch off "Rogue" ending they are the main enemy instead of Davion or Steiner.

^ This. Prices for Mechs and/or weapons will also vary slightly. Not a big factor if you plan to play a lot of Mechs but if you just want to sit in that 1 Mech type you could play the House that discounts it.(Liao for instance loves Catapults so they will likely sell those at a cheaper price) But again it won't be that big a factor. For me I'm taking Steiner because it has Deutsch written on it. I use Deutsch games names and like the language(and love their musik) so it is the winner.

One benefit of belonging to a house is the selection of whom one fights. As community warefare is begun, the classic and historical rivalries and hatreds will determine one's foes - as will locations. The FWL will not have any direct conflicts with the FRR or Kurita due to the fact they have no common borders. The CC will have little direct conflict the the Lyrans for the samne reasopn although there will be the cahnce as the Lyrans are an ally of the Fedsuns.

Another advantage will be access to various tech advantages, maybe earlier or cheaper than other houses. The Fedsuns are great fans of the autocannon, so Fedcom players might get early or cheap access to various models . The FWL is the leader in LRM munnions and Laser development, so a FWL player may get advantages in those areas. The Lyrans favor the "bigger is better" theory, so they might get an advantage in heavier mech chasis. My take is that the devs are looking to make each house unique as is the case in the canon/lore. We will see how it plays out as more elments are added to the game.

the prices of mechs will be different.

the davions are the middle of the road

the FRR will probably be the first to get hit by the clans.
go that way if u like risk and rewards. they probably will get clan salvage 1st.

kuritans have a lot of anime fans.

and a steiner atlas is considered a light mech for matchmaking purposes.

Honestly no clue yet who I am going to join. I lean toward House Davion because they seem to be the most fairly rule faction in the game. However, everyone leans toward Davion hehe.

Of the other houses, the Capellan Confederation seems to be rule by the insane, the Draconious Combine requires just a little too much sucide for me, the FWL is just about a flaky as the UN.

FRR seems interesting however, the sort of really get the short end of the deal in a few short months. Steiner would definately be an option, if not for that that total B.... of a ruler currently holding the throne. Still there are a few good elements there hehe.

Now what I would really like to see is the St. Ives Compact then it would be an easy choice

Hey, we may get the short end of the stick very soon but nobody can deny that the FRR goes up in a puff of GLORIOUS flame! Stand at our side as a fellow FRR patriot and you can be on the front lines of the invasion and be the first one into the battle. Don't pass up this chance as it only comes ONCE. I'll throw in this authentic space viking ale horn...? Whaddya say? :3

FedCom all the way! Who needs single houses ;) But sicne we have them, it´s Steiner for now. Decent rule ( exept for that unfortunate time leading to the civil war), economic power. And the Zeus. Not to mention heavy gauss ( although I got to wait for that for some time ).

But it has to be said: The DC is not so bad either... I like how so many of their mech variants feature C3.

Since I'm new to this game I don't know who I will join but so far being a Merc is the most appealing mostly because I like experimenting with different factions in games until I find the one that suits me the best.

On the other hand, although I feel the same way and have always loved the Steiners, Katrina has pretty much soiled anything with the name "Steiner" on it.

If only I hadn't read those novels...

Ah,but it´s 3049. We are in the gloriaus FedCon days, with Hanse still in charge, and then a few years left of Melissa Steiner... so don´t worry about Kathrin yet. ( And the real Katrina was a good ruler as well)

Davion should bring on the Victor, a pretty good assault mech. have to go back and look at the others common to the FedSuns. wonder if, when and how the Templar gets in. should be SLDF, from coreward, but i don't know if they'll add it or not, and if so, when and from whom. might also be FWL. don't remember if Marik developed that or not. Thomas being such a Word of Blake follower.

The FedCom is formed in 3055, so as of 3049 it's still the Federated Suns and the Lyran Commonwealth.

If you don't care about Houses or factions then just roll as a mercenary and fight for whoever pays you that day.

Davion and Steiner ally up at one point, calling their combined forces the "Federated Commonwealth".(An obvious merge of the names Federated Suns(Davion) and Lyran Commonwealth(Steiner)) Later, Steiner pulls out of the alliance and renames their followers "Lyran Alliance" to separate it from any Davion similarity. This causes a war known as the "Fedcom Civil War", which Steiner eventually lost. Many years later Steiner's name would be changed back to normal, becoming "Lyran Commonwealth" once again. This is all on sarna.
