If I was a Lyran, I'd be looking to start in the Steiner Awesome variant (2xLRM-15, 2xLL). I guess you'd call that a medium. :D

If i was a Snake, i would start in something armed with a machine gun...based on the expierience of Kentares IV i knew that medium laser and ppcs are really bad weapon to butcher civilians

BT: the Steiner version of a Awesome doesn't have PPCs? Curious...thought that could be a better FWL version, because they build the Awesome but lack the ppcs to fit it.

The variants based off the -8Q are meh; and really for the -9 series, the -9Q is where it is at.

The League has 1 PPC factory for most of the Succession Wars, producing enough PPCs to keep up with the needs of their Awesomes & Warhammers. There aren't enough left over for anyone else.

In practice it's because we only make a small number of PPCs and virtually all of them go on building more Awesomes.

EDIT - Scooped! That'll teach me not to read the whole thread...

the atlas dont need no stinkin ppc's, thats what awesomes are for. the atlas is better suited to a torso ac 20 or guass rifle, with laser arms and center torso mounts, and missiles in the shoulder areas and srm pack countered to the gun mount.

for instance, a long range atlas (no need for ppcs) would have a large laser on each arm, guass gun mount, lrm 20 and max armor/heat sinks to cool the large lasers and missile down. (as opposed to the brawler atlas with med lasers ac20 lrm 20 and srm 6)

The head of Piranha Games has already stated that all mechs will be available to all players at the start.

That may remove some individualization... But I guess raining Atlas' and Zeus' on everyone's parades would be a bit unfair.

I think the Centurion would be a great starting mech if we go with the medium class. Though I think it's a little too heavy to start off with, it has good armor and firepower. Another good one might be the Bushwacker. Though if we start in the light class I'd have to say either the Commando or the Razorback. I myself am a fan of the Razorback for its varied arsenal. :D
EDIT: Ok scratch that if we start with a medium mech I'm voting for the Chimera.

I mentioned it before i will mention it again...the major part of Steiner Mechs in the SW era are heavys...not assaults.
There are several mechworks that produce the Atlas - heck even the Snakes have there own mech works because Davions was so stupid to make quentin to a present.

I really hope to see shadow/phoenix hawks in this game..

I also would like to be able to totally customize mechs by being able to remove actuators and what not..

I would not be suprised if we all started in lights and had to grind our pilot ratings up to medium, etc.

As Steiners you'll start out in Atlases, and then once you've moved up the ranks your Atlas will be refitted to shoot C-Bills at your enemies ^_^

We don't shoot with C-Bills.
We will use razor sharp 0.05 Kroner Coins - converting a bold liao warrior on a 'chute into red mist ^_^

My dear...i forgot that killing a soldier of the ConCap would leave his family starving...under this circumstances i have ordered my tech to use 2 Kroner coins... so that poor mans family had more to eat.

Every Steiner Pilot should be given a Zeus, with the option to trade it in for an Atlas. What is a light or medium!?
