Just how many mechs are not going to be allowed b/c of Harmony Gold?

Dont worry about them, Project Phoenix solved that mess. In addition, any mechs will be redesigned to fit with MWO's look.

The ones listed on Super Dimension Fortress Macross are the Harmony Gold ones for sure. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Unseen

im trying to rember my history. it has been so very long since I actually delved into it. But I do beleive another commong medium steiner mech was the Shadow Hawk. and of course the venerable Phoenix Hawk. (and im sure were not going to see that venerable my first mech even beasty unless of course someone twisted Harmony gold/ Hasbro's arm up behind their head). But Id say start out in a medium.

If I can't get a Wolfhound, I'll take a Centurion until the Zeus is added.

I'd say it might be easiest to start everyone in a Commando, then let them decide which weight class they want to move to after a few missions. As has been mentioned, it does pack a powerful punch for a 25-tonner......

Shadow Hawks and Commandos for starter mechs. Shadow Hawk was my favorite non- Assault Mech and like the Commando it is very versatile in its capabilities while packing a solid punch at medium to long range, where the Commando is solid at close to medium range allowing for considerable overlap in roles and firepower.

Shadow Hawk. What's good enough for Grayson Carlyle to start is good enough for me.

Never been a fan of using lights as "starter" 'Mechs; it only reinforces the idea that they are expendable throwaways, suitable only for untested rookies until they prove themselves worthy of something "better." Which is unfortunate, since (as others have noted elsewhere) it takes a fair amount of skill to wield a Light 'Mech effectively, and a pilot who does well with a Light might not fare as well with a heavier machine, or vice-versa. There's a reason that the Star League used two dedicated trainer designs: the medium-class Chameleon (for training light and medium pilots) and the assault-class Crockett (for training pilots of heavier machines).

That said, I would biggest a "starter" 'Mech for each weight class (yes, two are Unseen, but a simple redesign solves that problem):

Light: COM-2D Commando
Medium: SHD-2H Shadow Hawk
Heavy: TDR-5S Thunderbolt
Assault: ZEU-6S Zeus or BNC-3E Banshee

I say we all start as Infantry and have to steal a 'Mech. :P

But seriously, if you're gonna pick a Light 'Mech that meets the Steiner philosophy of 'If brute force isn't effective, you're not using enough of it', why not an Urbie?

because MWO plays in 3048 not in 2455 - although would be nice to be the second faction that has BattleMechs - great for stomping Marik dictators

The Urbie is a really common mech throughout the Inner Sphere. But I think thanks to the Liao AC 20 variant the defense specialists ConCap would make the optimum for this mech.

Reread the ArmyReports --> medium mechs less common for the LCAF - mostly heavy units because of the unimaginative tactics.

I would try every class if I can. But a Zeus or a Banshee would be nice. ;)
Otherwise i like the Centurion.
So let's just see what we get an what happens when we smash it in their faces. :D

Who is making Mechwarrior Tactics? I just looked at their screenies and they have 11 mechs there....all of them except the Centurion are already in MWO...it gets me wondering ifthe mechs in MW:T are not also going to be the choices for MWO...If that hunch is even remotely correct then that kinda saddens me as my Zeus isnt one of the options...if im just waayyy out in left field...then cool, then that means there is still hope to see ZE ZEUS!!!

I think the WoT system works well. In that case, I think we should be starting with the Commando (2D). It's speedy, humanoid, and better armored than a locust.

It packs a medium laser, SRM-4, and SRM-6. For a light mech, it's got a nasty punch.

Best of all, it doesn't have jumpjets. Just like an Atlas.

Hey hey - I put jump jets on my Atlas *grins* yes I'm evil ******* that does death from above with an Atlas :D
