It looks like a Warhammer after a really long diet.
The original fluff was that it was in direct competition for the contract that the Warhammer eventually won. It is a more mobile Warhammer that gives up some firepower and armor for maneuverability.

It was one of my favorite mechs from a Battletechnology issue, so I paid a great DeviantArt Artist to modernize this Mech.
Here is the image and I've added some color and filled in the line art.
I'd love to see some repaints of this Mech by some of you talented individuals.
Here is the original pic from the Battletechnology magazine.

Here is the remake.

if the right arm (on left side of the pic) would look like the left mech arm and the missile launcher wouldnt look so out of place, it would be a nice, strong looking warhammer brother.

I've made a few changes and added my own markings and placed it on a suitable background.
I'd like to add some caption to it but I'm not sure what to put.
Thoughts?

Couple things I noticed with this, the lighting should be coming from behind the 'Mech given that's where the sun is, but its up off the left shoulder and the 'Mech is much "crisper" than the background. Also the whole floating feet people mentioned earlier.
I've only used GIMP a little bit and no photo shop, but I know that in GIMP you can add lighting lighting sources and adjust where they're coming from. I don't remember if you can do it for just a single layer or not, but you might try that to make the light come from more behind the Atlas. Second I'd suggest running a blur or gaussian blur over the 'Mech to slightly break up the well defined edges and make it a little softer/fuzzier to match the background.
As for the floating effect I think you mentioned something about adding more fog around the feet. Don't remember seeing it so not sure how that turned out. My suggestion for those is to make the fog right at the edges of the feet so thick you can't see them. That way there's no way to see where the feet actually "touch" the ground.
Anyway hope that helps and kudos to all the talented artists who make and repaint these great machines.

Here is the Atlas by itself.

Code of Conduct suggestion to those who work on other fan artists' work:
- PM the original artist first
- PM the result and get an OK before posting if it is meant to be funny or to translate a different meaning or message than the original
- keep it tasteful and respectful
- make sure to provide credit to the original fan artist on the intro and on the artpiece (because the images are in effect links to images posted elsewhere so we may lose track)
If you've noticed, Hayden respectfully mentions FD's work on all of his DA postings.
As for Max's work here, I fully endorse it. It is tasteful and does not change the nature of the original art. Plus we can see he's put a lot of work and heart into it. Personally, I like the scene a lot. I do think he needs to put subtle shadowing under the feet (he has to manage it without affecting the fog effect though). As for lighting: yes a blur effect might help. A second light source in front of the Atlas is possible however; this is the fun part with sci-fi as light could come from a binary star, a large planet (and this is actually a moon) reflecting light from that setting sun, a large moon... Name it!
Good job Max!
