And I don't know why he wasn't on the list but a close second would have to be Archer Christifari I think I spelled that wrong but you all will know who I mean . He was an amazing stratigist and an all around great character

Victor, though, starts as a tactically sound but naive commander and a woefully terrible politician. Over time, though he becomes a damn-near military genius and acceptable politician (though that process took quite a long time) who is pretty much the foremost military commander amongst the Inner Sphere militaries. Besides, he ends up living to be over a century old, in a universe where almost everyone has tried and failed to kill him at some point or another.
That said, as far as favorites go, none of these guys can hold a candle to the Black Widow. Gotta love Natasha Kerensky!

I'd have voted for The Jade Phenox. Adain Pride was just an awesome character, and his story had the perfect happy ending from a clan point of view. Second place is a tie between Horse, and Trent. Horse had more "screen time" and thus was more fleshed out, but like Adain, Trent also gets a good clan ending, while Horse just falls into the book gap between the end of the clan saga, and the begining of the dark ages.

If I had to chose from the five listed it would probably be Victor, because of the ones listed he is the most human, Phelan and Kai are a little too super powered for my liking, and Kai;s massive emo gives me a headache.
In fact now that I think about I think the Morgan Kell is cooler then Phelan, and Justin Xiang is cooler then his son. So let's hear it for the older generation.

Kai is the most skilled Mechwarrior in every way with any Mech against any opponent. He's so good he should be tested after every match in the arena for the use of PED's. I would like to see if skill could defeat luck on a REAL battlefield. I bet if they were to simulate the battle they would both go critical meltdown at the same time and not override the auto-eject in time and force a draw. Then go grab two more mechs and do it all over again! A neverending battle if you will.

Kai-Allard Liao takes second because he displays such humility despite having an almost unparalleled skill. Also that he manages to maintain some compassion and humanity even in the midst of the most terrible things that happen in the war.
Phelan takes third for the men, his accomplishment and determination is worth many mentions.
Some women in the Battletech universe I admire:
Melissa Steiner comes to mind first because she is a benevolent ruler. Rationally I recognize this was a device used by the authors to illustrate the horrible thing that Katrina is becoming when she is willing to kill this woman who has nurtured her for 20 years just for a taste of power.
Ariana Winston is my second most admired because of her tactical ability and grit.
Omi Kurita comes in a strong third because of her compassion and balanced viewpoint on life.

That said, I think my true favorite characters in the BattleTech and MechWarrior universes, are the characters made by the incredible imaginations of our community. The characters you guys create through roleplay and your everyday actions on forums everywhere create not just incredible stories, plots, and motives; they allow someone to truly interact with this incredible universe, no matter who you are or what side you're on. Sure you'll never be remembered in the series cannon, but who cares when you have the power not just to shape your own story, but make it intertwine with the stories of others. The sheer diversity of motives and personalities you can find here makes the difference between just jumping into matches in a 'mech sim and truly having an effect on the world you fight in. I wouldn't want to do battle alongside, or against, anyone else.
Cheers Gentlemen (and Ladies), here's to an amazing franchise and all the fine characters in it!

I like Hohiro (Obvious DC Bias), but only in his later years. He seems to have a "Princess in distress" thing written into his life all too often. I've got to say that Sun-Tzu Liao would have to be my best pick outside of the Blood of Kerensky books. Inside them, he was an insufferable ****.
