Adain pride is the best clanner that i have seen from jade falcon. his tennacitie and skill make him unbeatble one on one, he is a military genieus that found a way out of almost every problem that came in front of him, and he came back stronger than before in every situation that he failed at (witch you can count on one hand). yet he still had a human side to him that most clansman don't have. he was compassionate to the freeborns and eventially felt at home around them. he felt love for Marthe and Perry. and most of all he showed the love of a father in his final hour, by taking down mech by mech by mech to save his daughter. he is one the best characters in battle tech ever created

Haven't gone through all the pages yet, so someone might have already addressed this, but he didn't know his daughter was out there. He did what he did for The Clans and for Jade Falcon above all. He gave his life so that others Warriors could get off planet alive. Otherwise I agree, my favorite clanner in the entire series of books.

Of those listed I'm going with Victor, for the same reasons that have already been stated.

Sun-Tzu Liao-Davion was the only child of the Fox who inherited his brains, for a spheroid he's quite clever.

Phelan Kell for me as well. Both Kai and Victor "grew up" through the course of the timeline, but stayed fairly true to themselves. I felt that Phelan's transformation from Inner Sphere to Clan Leader and the subsequent loss of innocence was well handled. One of my favorite scenes was his trial of position with Natasha Kerenski - loved that battle.

If you mean pre clan invasion for time period I would go with Phelan Kell. He is brash and cocky. He thinks he knows who he is and who he is supposed to be in this time period. Victor does not come into his own until after the clan invasion starts. Kai, well Kai is insane in a mech no doubt about it. Sun-ztu gives me the creeps enough said. If we go for further down the time line then I go with Archer Christifori. I mean seriously the guy destroys 6 mechs I think it is and an elemental before his mech goes down just to insure the safetly of a drop point? Then when he gets back home he leads a revolt on his home planet takes it to a nearby planet and succeeds in destroying the planetary defenses on both planets.

I second Archer, and raise you Loren Jeffray formerly of the Death Commandoes, and now Lt. Col in the Northwind Highlanders. Also a big YES to Cassie Suthorn and the rest of the misfits of Camacho's Caballeros!

Sun-Tzu... because he wrote The Art of War :-)

On a more serious note, I'm impressed with Cassius Brown's analysis, as well as many other comments here. Although she's not on the list, I would have picked Katherine if she wasn't such a b****. I admire ambition and have nothing against a bit of scheming, but how (oh how) did Melissa's daughter turn out to be a futuristic version of Stalin. I mean, there's enough political tension in the BT Universe, did she also have to be "evil", as if she had a mixture of Kurita and Liao mentors when she was a kid.

Anyways, I don't favor white knight characters but even as a Steiner loyalist, I have reservations about Katherine (or Katrina as she would like to be known, but that somewhat spoils her grandmothers memory).

P.S. I have to admit, I thought she was really hot in the intro of Mechcommander 2 :D

Oh dear, I need a Steiner character with a less skewed moral compass, help, anyone? (And don't say Victor)

Phelen Kell, I just prefer his attitude and mannerisms and how he rose up through the ranks of Clan Wolf, and became the khan of Clan Wolf in Exile . That coupled witht he fact they are wardens not the crusaders from the clan is one more reason.

ah yes phelen kell also known as "i have stockholms syndrome"

there is only one right answer, and that man is Sun Tzu.

I would say Victor just because he stayed true to his principles, loyal to his friends, and sought what was best for his nation.

Victor sought what would make other rulers like him personally, never what was best for his nation. That's why he was such a bad ruler. Take, for example, Operation: Bulldog. He could have very well done what the other states besides the DC did and let the DCMS, Com Guards and Clan turncoats handle the majority of combat and have the forces he sent to the SLDF be reserve or garrison troops freeing up line units. That would have preserved his own troops, rather than letting them die for another House's territory. Instead he insisted his troops do as much fighting as the Combine. That's not in the best interest of the State, that's him wanting Teddy K's approval for validation.

And after that, Victor's insistence that he personally go to Huntress rather than have his Champion, Ardan Sortek, go in his place (which is like the who purpose of a Prince's Champion) is what caused the FCCW. Billions of people died because Victor can't not lead his pet unit in combat. Is that what is best for his nation? No, he just wanted to hang out with Hohiro and Kai, even though neither were heads of state like him.

Victor because is he was a decent human being, that constantly put the lives of others and the well-being of his kingdom and the Inner Sphere before himself.

Though he could have saved allot of heartache and just assassinated his punkassed sister.

I have to agree on Natasha Kerensky. While the original five are hard to choose from, and the Steiner women have plenty of story time, Natasha is a female mech pilot that few would want to square off against in or out of a mech.

Phelan Kell/Ward because of the whole Inner Sphere/Clan dicotomy that forms his personality and makes for a more interesting character.

Victor I simply find annoying.

Victor and Galen Cox. They seem like good friends trying to help each other out. Of course, Victor's the Archon-Prince. But Galen's his eyes, ears, and hand.

I guess the BT universe tend to balance itself off. If Victor was ever successful as the Archon-Prince of a stable FedCom, then they would dominate the IS in a couple of decades. (The DC being integrated by him marrying Omi???)

But Katherine had to be born and the rest, as they say, is history...

Sadly as great as they are they wouldnt get my vote. For me the best character would be a toss up between Minobu Tesuhara or Morgan Kell. For Minobu is was heart reanching watching this man struggle between his personal honor and Bushido. And who wouldn't want Morgan Kell at the shoulder in a hot LZ

I would definitely say Victor, though I agree with alot of you about Focht. Victor seesm to me to be an intelligent statesman and a cunning strategist.
