Heh . . . I'm real old school.

Started playing Battletech when it was just a board game in the 1980's. Ran demonstration games at GENCON for FASA back when BT was still under its wing.

I've played at GenCon during those days. We had quite a robust MW TT group in my hometown in the 80's, as well as a subset of those who played the 1st Ed of the RPG.
I played the first MechWarrior game (Crescent Hawk's Inception, and it's sequal) on DOS endlessly and was hooked on every game that came out in the franchise (to varying degrees) ever since.

I've played MW2/3/4
I tried playing Mech Assualt but just couldn't.

Also I probably watched the intro to MW2 a hundred times, that [REDACTED] was epic!

But now it just looks laughable like someones horrible demo reel.

I've played TT practically my entire adult life, it seems... though considerably less once the MunchClans were introduced and they started making video games exclusively based on their stories.

I tried the Crescent Hawk games, but only really got into the video game aspect with MechWarrior. Actually being IN the Mech, piloting it around and shooting stuff... the feeling is extremely difficult to describe to subsequent generations that grew up with this style of thing already extant. It wasn't exactly bliss... even then I could see improvements were needed for a fully immersive experience, but I could see bliss just over the horizon from my BattleMaster's cockpit.

Of course after that MechWarrior 2 was a no-brainer, though I did wrestle a bit with my low-level Clan hate. As vastly improved as the gameplay and graphics were, I just couldn't get into the storyline, although MW2: Ghost Bear Legacy was certainly an improvement in that area. Then came MW2: Mercenaries... my ideal game (at the time). This was the true reincarnation of my nostalgically beloved MechWarrior. Though I never played online (modems were crap in those days), it almost completely replaced Duke Nukem 3D as our main LAN party game and revived our interest in the TT game.

I tried MechWarrior 3 briefly, but I never really got into it that much. Certain gameplay changes, a few nasty bugs, and a computer barely on the fringes of "minimum requirement" made the game more of a burden than a delight. And I missed my "Gundam Jets"... my term for using MW2 jump jets as a ground-level speed boost or a quick direction change.

After that I tended to miss the next few MechWarrior titles. Played MechCommander 1&2 briefly, though RTS games are really not my cup of tea. Then a couple years ago I picked up MW4: Mercenaries in a bargain bin. Oh, my... everything was suddenly new and shiny again. I was making deals, salvaging equipment, building a unit, and the Clans were reduced to a sidequest. And with Solaris VII and Duncan Fisher announcing... brought a tear to my eye. It was just as I imagined the Games would be. Still wasn't sold on the MechLab, but I could understand the reasoning behind it. And I never really got into online play... I came too late for the M$ multiplayer servers and wasn't so interested in that aspect to use the MekTek stuff.

So here I am today! I'll be the first to admit I wish MWO were more co-op vs. AI than PvP, but I can adapt. And Roles! Mech Specialisation! I'm especially excited to see that in action... got tired of being forced out of my fast, fun Mech due to the arms race in prior games.

I've played all the computer games and Mechassaults except for Ghost Bear's Legacy. I hope to someday get it working so I can enjoy it. I REALLY want to try out this Mechwarrior LL mod for Crysis, seems very interesting.

I played both Mechassualts (Problem?) when I was young and never realized there were more of them out there. Finding Mechwarrior Online was like finding a favorite lost toy :)

I got my start with the Powerhits: Battletech collection in 92 or so which introduced me to The Crescent Hawk's Inception and Revenge plus Mechwarrior 1. I was into just about every PC game genre at the time so the Battletech strategy games appealed to me just as much as Mechwarrior. MW took most of my time though in the end, I was fascinated with what the game allowed me to do. Around that time Virtual Worlds also opened up the world's first (as far as I recall) Battletech simulator at the Navy Pier in Chicago, IL. I lived nearby, and started frequenting it as much as my parents would allow.

Following my addiction to both Mechwarr and Battletech I went on to be a day one buyer / supporter of MW2, MW2: Mercs, MW3, and the Mech Commander games. Around the release of MW3 I managed to network quite a bit with Microsoft and was lucky enough to get in on very limited testing and feedback opportunities for MW4: Vengeance, MW4: Mercs, and MechCommander 2.

I did have a chance to check out MechAssault a bit back in the day, but I felt it was kind of a let down. I think MW:Online is going to do the IP justice once again though, so no harm done.
