In summery, you will continue to stay at status pending until you buy a founders pack or until the game goes live. There is not a set date for open beta.

Technically that's not anything drastically different from any other game, just compare it to a pre-order of other games that gets you early access.

I wasn't talking open beta ,,I thought this was closed beta,SO since when has a Closed Beta test become a pay for thing, Isn't there a law about something like this? I was taught that Closed beta was to a select number and that was it ,,then open beta was open to the public, and then after the open beta test it would be then out on shelves for sale to install or even then be a free game with the option to buy a special package,,Thank you very much for the info on Us having to pay for a founders package that only will last so long then what we still got to pay, WHat ever happened to the Old School Closed beta testing, and I like how it was stated to sign up for the closed beta for free when indeed it isn't..

Signing up for the closed beta is free, and there ARE people who got into the closed beta without ever buying a founders' package. This selection process of who gets in, though... even we are not privy to the exact details.

However, founders have all been given access to the closed beta, as part of the initial founders' package - guaranteed access to closed beta was one of the perks. However, that doesn't mean that you have to pay if you want to get in the closed beta; it means that if you pay you will get in the closed beta. It's not exactly the same thing, and it's not fair to them to equate the two.

Open beta is upcoming, when that time comes, you will have access. Until then, hang on... and don't pay for the founders' package unless you want to. While PGI would naturally prefer you to pay than not to pay if you're happy about it either way, they would also prefer you to play happily for free than to deal with refund demands from a dissatisfied customer. No company likes to deal with unhappy customers.

Lastly, as Kyphe mentioned, there are many others who have waited for far longer than you, and have chosen not to purchase the founders' package, and wait. You are not alone in this.

as hayashi said, many people got into the closed beta before there was even such a thing as "founders", so it isn't a "payed beta". now that the beta invites have ended, only founders will gain access until open beta. founders are able to get in DESPITE the normal invite process being over, but it isn't a payed access only beta.

Suppose I'll patiently wait then, I don't typically buy a game without at least playing a demo, that is unless a certain Madcat was to make an appearance then I might have to become a founder after all :)

No.

It is. That select number includes anyone who is a founder, it also includes all the others who were selected by the random selection process (to which even staff are apparently not totally privy)

Nothing happened, we're still in closed beta and it's still free and the game is still free. You were never guaranteed a place in the closed beta, founders are guaranteed a place if they want to take advantage of it. Remember, its purpose, like the open beta, is testing, it's nothing else.

I have some speculations on why lots of people are still pending. (me included) MWO is running only a few servers for the select few for quite a few reasons.

1. Server costs. Instead of running 10 servers for EVERYONE who wants to play the beta instead of say 2-3 for the founders pack people would make managing costs a lot easier. I don't think this is a HUGE reason to keep people out of the game but when they are only testing the game its nice to keep costs lower until its fully open to the public.

2. Bug management. Having the beta only open to a select few limits spammed bugs. Better only 100 people report an obvious bug than 10000 and so therefore wastes less player and developer time reading/writing out bug reports until it gets fixed. Its easier on the developers to fix the big bugs in the system now with only a few people and once most is cleared up open it up into an open beta for more in-depth testing.

3. Complaints. People complain. Why let people play a game still in testing and then get mad and stop playing?? The main thing that I don't think is stressed enough is that the game is in TESTING. Its not like the people who are paying to play are getting the full mechwarrior online experience we all crave just because they paid money, they are getting a test product right now.

4. They are saving the good stuff for the rest of us!! Later though..... The main thing right now is general bug fixing. They don't need everyone playing an unfinished product. It still needs some more polishing. No mechwarrior game was created overnight. Let alone massive multiplayer games like this. Takes years. If its anything like other MMO's out there it will likely get updated on (hopefully) a quarter year basis to fix bugs or level the playing field for any type of overpowering on a certain weapon/mech/strategy. Main thing is right now the game is out for testing, not to go around and do what you normally do for fun in games like this. Exploiting glitches (so they can get fixed of course) and testing the overall mechanics of the game is why its out right now.

5. And finally, (again this is all opinion/speculation, love or hate this post all you want) the developers want you to have fun. The first time you get into the cockpit of a mech you will likely: Either have chills running down your spine, have your eyes glued to the screen, have the sound cranked way up for special effect, or even all three! The longer we wait the better that moment will be!! (The game will be more complete) It would be grand if we could all go in right now and have a great time. But for now I bet the game has a few frustrating mechanics that could possibly ruin the game experience and drive some players away. Best to save the game until it is truely ready to be enjoyed.

While some of us are more than willing to overlook the downsides to the game in order to get strapped in and get to blasting each others mechs apart, its still a test product. When MWO is good and ready to have an open beta over the current closed beta approach I'm sure those of us in the PENDING status will be the first to know! Until then I am content to wait a few weeks, or a few months. The longer we wait the more complete the product will become and the more enjoyable the game will be.

From first days of Founders program, it has been a donate to show your confidence in the future and to help keep the game in a forward movement. PGI gifted a chance to enter into the closed beta, adding more entry as time advanced until all were in by July 4. Then Founders changed slightly to donate and the guaranteed entry. MW:O is actually not in closed beta by many peoples definition, but between Alpha and Beta. Since all that have donated are now in the so called closed beta, they are allowed to say they are in but nothing else. Of these ,many can observe but not much more for reasons that seems to still be covered by NDA. Most of observers do not feel cheated because they are in to see the time immediatly after birth of game. During the(clean up phase) of this birth. As in most all game births, some agree with what they see and others have concerns. What I can tell you is this game will amaze so many when things get more intense. During closed betas of most all games there is limited content. But as more is added mouths will open in amazement. I would recomend all donate and experience the resurection of a classic. You are not buying in, you are donating to the future of game. Lastly this time in a game only happens once and will never be seen again. I think I am allowed to say that this is NOT your normal gaming staff, how many games has the staff directly PM answers to questions including the most high president Russ Bullock. I hope to see all of you in the Beta forums soon, you are missing the first gasps of this games lungs.

The distinction between alpha and beta can be a blurry one and it's a matter of the developer's opinion, largely... but given the current state of the game, it's not alpha. Not that it really matters.

God gimmie a shovel to hit this guy lol :) he makes so much fuss for waiting 2 weeks .... in my opinion paying 30$ to have guaranted access to beta plus the Cash on OBT is not bad deal, i just have to wait 2-3 weeks to have some extra cash and I'm in. Don't think that i'll get in beta without buying in, even though i get 99% most of the times in betas, doubt i will in 2-3 weeks in MWO... so I'll just buy my Founder pack and thats it.

When you say "just", how recently? It usually takes a while, perhaps a couple of hours. If you're not getting confirmation from your payment method, the problem likely lies there not with PGI. I got an email from the payment processor and then an email from PGI and then another couple of emails with info, I think.

Not looking good for you, WarStorm. I'd chase your payment people and drop a line to support, too, to see what exactly they have at their end, if anything. You don't show as a Founder, to me and it's quite a few hours since you said you tried.
